Moskov’s Cut Mid strategy became one of the most talked-about moments following Week 6 of MPL ID Season 15. And for good reason—it had been executed once again by the same team, in the same role, and under similar circumstances.
Many fans still remember EVOS’s infamous Brody Cut Mid play by Clover back in Season 8—a moment that has remained iconic ever since. Although, upon closer analysis, the move wasn’t necessarily a mistake.
The main purpose of pushing the wave that far forward is usually to prevent the enemy from counterpushing when your team lacks members to defend.
This time, the move resurfaced once more in Season 15, drawing attention after Branz used Moskov in a similar fashion during EVOS's 2–1 loss to Geek Fam in Week 6.
EVOS had actually been in control for most of the game. But once again, critical errors led to their downfall. At the very end of Game 3, after EVOS lost a teamfight near the Lord pit, Branz—while split-pushing the top lane—threw his Spear of Misery toward Geek Fam’s advancing players, who were preparing to end the game.
Moskov’s Cut Mid Was Not Without Reason
Many fans quickly criticized Branz for that decision. Yet in reality, Geek Fam had already secured a clear path to victory regardless of his action.
Branz had thrown the spear and teleported toward a group of minions behind the Geek Fam squad in an attempt to clear the wave. But outnumbered 1v4, he was eliminated instantly.
EVOS lost the game—and questions arose. Eventually, during a livestream, Branz explained the reasoning behind his decision. According to him, the move had been a desperate attempt at a miracle play, since there were no better options left.
“At the time, I thought Swaylow wasn’t dead. Turns out he was,” Branz said.
“If he had survived, I was going to gamble and go for a 1v1 against Gobbs’ Edith in the top lane. Maybe I could’ve ended the game.”
A Risky Play from a Returning Player
Overall, Branz’s performance wasn’t necessarily poor. He had created several good moments across the three games, though he also made some over-aggressive moves.
Still, for a player returning to the competitive stage after some time, Branz has shown glimpses of potential—and could continue to improve with more matches under his belt.
