The Apothecary Diaries anime is currently entering its second chapter in its first anime season. With the start of a new chapter of the anime, new faces, and new voice actors join the new cast of the story. This time, The Apothecary Diaries introduces Rikuson, who is Lakan's subordinate whose voice is provided by Kouki Uchiyama.

The character Rikuson first appeared in the original light novel in volume 5, and he has an easy talent for memorizing and recognizing the faces of anyone he sees. The announcement of the presence of this popular voice actor was first announced on the official Twitter/X account for the anime The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto).

The second cour of this anime was first broadcast on January 6, 2024, where the new opening theme was performed by Uru with the title "Ambivalent," and Wacci performed the new ending theme song "Ai wa Kusuri" (Love is Medicine). Previously, the anime also announced other new cast members including Takuya Kirimoto as strategist Lakan and Kaori Nazuka as mysterious court lady Suirei.

This anime was first broadcast in October 2023, where the anime tells the story of Maomao, a 17 years old female pharmacist in a brothel area who is suddenly kidnapped and sold until she becomes a servant in the royal palace. Due to her experience living with an apothecary, while at the palace Maomao became curious about a rumor involving the mystery of a curse between the concubines and ladies-in-waiting.

Thanks to her ability, knowledge, and sharp analysis, Maomao managed to find a cure for a disease circulating among the concubines, allowing her to be promoted from a low-ranking servant. Maomao's life began to change when she arrived at the palace, there were many mysteries to be uncovered and a lot of knowledge about new medicines that attracted her attention.

The anime is directed by Norihiro Naganuma at TOHO Animation and OLM, with Naganuma also supervising the script. Akinori Fudesaka is the assistant director, with Yukiko Nakatani designing the characters. The anime is currently still being broadcast with the second half of the first season of the story having now begun.
