Latest Resident Evil 9 Gameplay Details
Here are some of the newest Resident Evil 9 gameplay details we can discuss and note:
1. Return to Raccoon City with Open World and Vehicles
Resident Evil Requiem will bring players back to Raccoon City after the massive destruction in Resident Evil 3. This time, the city will feature more expansive open levels to explore. Leaks from insider Dusk Golem reveal that players will be able to use vehicles to travel between areas, making exploration more dynamic than in previous entries.
Capcom is also targeting 60fps to ensure performance in the visually detailed open areas. In addition, the game will allow players to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives, offering flexibility in experiencing the horror atmosphere or combat strategy.
2. Two Protagonists with Different Playstyles
The debut trailer confirmed Grace Ashcroft as the main protagonist, while leaks suggest Leon S. Kennedy will appear as a significant secondary character. Leon’s gameplay is inspired by The Last of Us Part 2, featuring deep stealth, realistic melee combat, and tense, methodical encounters.
Meanwhile, Grace will focus on environmental interactivity, allowing players to use nearby objects to fight enemies. Light and darkness management mechanics will be central to Grace’s survival loop, providing a different horror feel from Leon’s.
3. Gameplay Innovations Setting a New Resident Evil Standard
If all these leaks are accurate, Resident Evil Requiem could become the most innovative entry in the series. The integration of vehicles into core gameplay, the distinct combat styles of two characters, and the blending of camera perspectives promise a fresh experience.
These features aim to combine intense action, expansive exploration, and chilling horror moments, making Requiem one of the most anticipated games of 2025. With the official gameplay reveal just a few days away, horror fans worldwide are eager to see if Capcom will deliver on all these breakthroughs.
Leaked Resident Evil 9 Details
Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth main entry in the Resident Evil series, developed and published by Capcom. Scheduled for release on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S, the survival horror title introduces a new main character, Grace Ashcroft — an FBI agent and technical analyst sent to investigate a series of mysterious deaths at a hotel, a location with personal significance as it is where her mother died eight years earlier.
The story of Requiem is set in Raccoon City about 30 years after the catastrophic events of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Players will explore the ruined city, including iconic locations like the police station featured in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. Capcom offers camera freedom with the ability to switch between first-person and third-person at any time. As per series tradition, Grace will be pursued by a formidable “stalker enemy” — similar to Mr. X or Lady Dimitrescu — creating constant psychological pressure throughout the game.
Resident Evil Requiem was officially announced at Summer Game Fest 2025 as the show’s closing reveal, after first being confirmed in development during the Capcom Showcase presentation on July 1, 2024.
The announcement generated huge excitement, with the game added to over one million wishlists across all platforms. Capcom is also preparing a playable demo for Gamescom 2025 in August, giving the public their first hands-on experience with its atmosphere and gameplay mechanics.
The game continues to use the RE Engine, the technology standard since Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017), ensuring high-quality visuals and strong performance. Interestingly, according to director Koshi Nakanishi, Requiem was initially conceived as an online open-world multiplayer game. However, that concept was scrapped early in development because the team felt it was not what fans wanted, opting instead to return to the series’ roots — a traditional single-player survival horror experience focused on tension, exploration, and deep storytelling.
With its new protagonist, the return to Raccoon City, and Capcom’s commitment to delivering classic gameplay polished with modern technology, Resident Evil Requiem is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Resident Evil releases in recent years.
