Mr. 2, whose real name is Bentham, has become Straw Hat Pirates’ ally after their first meeting. Even in Impel Down, Mr. 2 helped Luffy to save Ace. Then, how’s he doing right now? Here are some facts about Mr. 2 in One Piece!

1. Befriends Straw Hat Pirates But Sanji

When boarding on Going Merry and meeting all the Straw Hat Pirates, Mr. 2 was already a good friend to them. After showing Mane Mane no Mi’s abilities where he can turn into someone and copying its voice, Luffy and the others were amazed and they started singing together.

Sadly, at that time, Sanji didn’t meet Mr. 2 because he’s in the kitchen. Because of that, when Sanji met Mr. 2 in Alabasta, they didn’t know each other and fought.

2. Didn’t Have a Partner at Baroque Works

All Baroque Works’ male members generally have one female partner, like Mr. 4 with Miss Merry Christmas, then Mr. 1 with Miss Doublefinger, and Crocodile with Miss All Sunday (Nico Robin). 

Oddly enough, Mr. 2 was the only member not to have a female partner. Probably due to his okama (half male, half female) appearance so he was considered as both.

3. Differences in the Manga and in the Anime

In the manga, Mr. 2’s jacket has “okama” written on it. While in the anime, it has “Bon Kurei” instead. On Oda’s initial concept, Mr. 2’s initial name was Mr. 2 Happy Birthday. The latter fact probably is not too important, but still interesting enough.

4. Saving Luffy Twice

As a good friend, Mr. 2 had saved Luffy’s life twice. At first, when the Straw Hat Pirates were chased by Hina after the Alabasta arc. The second time when Luffy was dying at Impel Down after being struck by Magellan’s poison. With a wounded body, Mr. 2 brought Luffy to Ivankov’s place to be healed.

Luckily, Luffy’s life managed to be saved even though it had to sacrifice a little bit of his life span. Also, Mr. 2 sacrificed himself to save all Impel Down prisoners by disguising as Magellan and opening the Gates of Justice.

5. Became the New Leader of 5,5 Impel Down

When holding and fighting against Magellan, it turns out Mr. 2 survived. After being incarcerated again by Magellan, he became a new queen on floor 5.5, replacing Ivankov. This is seen at One Piece manga chapter 666 cover. Can he get out of Impel Down to meet Luffy again?
