Naruto world indeed has an intriguing history. Well, on this occasion, the writer would like to briefly explain about the past in Naruto world – which would cover the purpose of the God/Divine Tree, the origins of the Otsutsuki Clan, and the inception of ninjutsu!
Without further ado, please enjoy the discussion of Naruto lore from DuniaGames. Hope it helps!
1. God/Divine Tree and The Arrival of the Otsutsuki Clan
A race that is able to explore across the dimensions, for millennia, the Otsutsuki Clan has migrated from one dimension to another, in search of a world with God/Divine Tree in it.
The God/Divine Tree itself grew out from a mysterious seed landed on Earth several millennia ago in the form of a meteorite. Due to its gigantic size, it was worshipped by many and believed that the tree nourished and helped the land to thrive. While in truth, it was actually live by absorbing the blood that soaked into the ground from countless battles and draining natural energy from the land and its people.
Every thousand years or so, the God/Divine Tree produces a unique fruit from its stem: a Shinju Fruit or ‘chakra fruit’. Which legend says humans shall not touch it. These fruits are the very reason for the ‘world hunt’ by the Otsutsuki Clan.
Once they have found a world with Shinju Fruits in it, the members of the Otsutsuki Clan will harvest said fruits and consume their chakra in order to extend their longevity along with godlike power. Each member of the Otsutsuki had their own plans in exploiting the power of the God Tree. Just as Momoshiki and Kinshiki, would continue to harvest the tree until it and its respective planet die.
While Kaguya had a different plan. After consuming the chakra fruit, Kaguya stopped the war that was ongoing at that moment and brought peace on Earth. Since then, she’s revered as the good-hearted Rabbit Goddess.
However, the application of Mugen Tsukuyomi (reflected off a moon from another dimension) to stop the war was seen as an abuse of power by the humans -- and the terror was increased after Kaguya turned and bounded those who were affected and trapped in dreams into White Zetsu to guard the Chakra Tree against Kinshiki and Momoshiki. Unfortunately, an entire human population was no match against their goddess.
2. Kaguya is Sealed and The Birth of Ninshu
One day, Kaguya gave birth to both of her sons, Hagoromo and Hamura, with their own chakra. Kaguya became agitated as she felt they’ve taken parts of her power. So then the mother chose to merge with the God Tree to take the chakra back and became a monster called the Ten-Tails!
The Ten-Tails went berserk and was trying to destroy the world until Hagoromo and Hamura sealed the giant beast using Chibaku Tensei - forming a sphere of ground that became what the humans call as the ‘moon’. The brothers then split tasks to guard their mother’s seal.
The Ten-Tails chakra was sealed into Hagoromo, while its skin called Gedo Mazo was put on the Moon. Meanwhile, Hamura, along with some of the Otsutsuki Clan who were inhabiting the Earth, moved to the moon in order to guard the Gedo Mazo.
For his ability in stopping the Ten-Tails’ rage, humans revered Hagoromo and gave him the title as Rikudo Sennin. The Rikudo Sennin then shared his chakra and taught humans the technique of Ninshu - a creed where humans are able to understand each other’s hearts and maintain peace using chakra.
At one point in his ruling period, Hagoromo had a family with two children, named Indra and Ashura.
As Hagoromo went through his twilight period, he shared a significant part of his chakra - from the Ten-Tails - into 9 Beasts: Shukaku, Matatabi, Isobu, Son Goku, Kokuo, Saiken, Chomei, Gyuki, and Kurama. Aside from that, he passed down a task for his youngest son, Ashura, to keep the peace on earth.
Not long after that, Hamura died on the Moon, but he assigned the other members of the Otsutsuki Clan to take care of the humans from the moon.
Unfortunately, the noble message from the Otsutsuki brothers was not well-interpreted by their descendants.
3. The Inception of Ninjutsu in the Downfall of Earth and Moon’s Inhabitants
After several millennia, Hagoromo and Hamura’s legacy was tarnished.
On earth, Indra and Asura fought each other using their ninshu. Indra was jealous of his brother for being given a significant task by Hagoromo. Their conflict went on for generations along with their reincarnations, creating a bloody cycle for centuries - giving birth to ninjutsu that has been utilized in wars since then.
While on the Moon, the Otsutsuki Clan split into two factions: Main and Branch, where the Branch family claims Hamura wanted to destroy the Earth once they exploited Hagoromo’s teachings. Even that eventually the Branch family won, they almost go extinct because of that civil war.
Fast forward around a millennium, there’s what they call as the Warring States Period on Earth. The countries were going into war against each other, hired groups of mercenary shinobi for whatever they bid to gain land, power, and opportunity.
In this era, the Senju and Uchiha Clan were swinging swords and shed blood at each other.
Those were a brief history of the past in Naruto world long before Naruto and his friends - even Hashirama, the First Hokage was born! Wait for another discussion on the next Naruto lore from Dunia Games!
