ONIC’s struggles have become a hot topic in MPL ID S15. The four-time consecutive champions found themselves in an unusual situation, facing unexpected setbacks.

No one could have predicted that ONIC would be at the bottom of the standings at the end of Week 2, suffering three consecutive losses.

Their usual dominant performance was nowhere to be seen. Even their veteran players were not playing at their usual level. Doubts began to emerge—until their main EXP Laner was finally able to play in Week 3.

Filipino import Ryota had just received his KITAS (work permit), allowing him to compete. Sure enough, ONIC immediately secured two impressive victories in Week 3.

Geek Fam and Bigetron were their victims. Additionally, Savero was finally able to play after serving a four-match suspension due to his participation in Lignas last season.

Sanz Explains ONIC’s Issues

In a post-match interview, ONIC’s star player Sanz revealed that the team was on the right track.

He admitted that something went wrong early in the season, and the players were not in sync. However, things have now changed for the better.

"Right now, we’re not making as many mistakes. Before, we kept chasing enemies aimlessly—we weren’t connected," Sanz told the media.

"Now, at least we’re avoiding unnecessary mistakes, and we’re on the same page," he concluded.

Judging by ONIC’s Week 3 performance, it’s clear that they have instantly returned to being a top-tier team. However, maintaining this momentum will be a challenge.

A three-week break for Lebaran will force ONIC to pause their progress. Additionally, before MPL ID resumes, ONIC will be competing in ESL, which could create new problems. Other MPL ID teams, who will not be playing, could use this time to study ONIC’s strategies and find ways to counter them.
