1. Berserk
One of the most hanging anime endings is with Berserk which released in 1997. This anime tells about Guts who joined with a mercenary Band of the Hawks led by Griffith. During the Golden Age arc, Griffith sacrificed his men to the devil to gain glory.
In the manga continues to Guts’ attempt to take revenge on Griffith, while the anime discontinues. Aside from continuing where the anime left off, fans must be disappointed with Berserk reboot that is full of CGI and abandoning the old, anime style.
2. Fruits Basket
Fruits Basket is a shojo manga that tells the life of an orphan named Tohru Honda whose life changes 180 degrees after meeting Sohma family who has a weird curse. In the manga, Fruit Basket runs up to 23 volume.
Sadly, the anime only produced one season with 26 episodes without introducing many key characters in the manga. But the fate seems turns out pretty well because in 2019 the anime received a promising reboot.
3. Bleach
At the dawn of Bleach, many people shocked with it, especially manga fans, in the world with the manga and anime. Due to the popularity, this manga even included in Shonen Jump’s “Big 3” aside of One Piece and Naruto. Sadly, as time goes by, Tite Kubo’s storytelling getting monotone and fans slowly left the series.
The decreasing popularity makes the production house decided not to continue the series in 2012 right before the last arc in the manga. But there’s good news for Bleach fans because the anime will continue to air the last arc.
4. Btooom!
Btooom! Is an isekai-themed anime with Battle Royale fashion in it where everyone who thrown into the remote island must kill each other, and only one man survives.
The first season in the anime ends with the word “Continue?” on the last episode and seems to tease fans with the next season. Sadly, the next season never aired since 2012. Many people believed that the reason why Btooom! Gets discontinues due to the not so successful DVD and Blu-ray sales in Japan.
5. Deadman Wonderland
Deadman Wonderland tells about a special prison that functions as an entertainment spot for tourists. All inmates in this prison serve as a toy by the incoming visitors.
The anime itself turns pretty anticipated by the fans. Sadly, everything turns sideways when everyone realizes the anime has a different story with the manga. After 12 episodes, the anime forced to shut down.
6. Claymore
Claymore revolves around a group of female soldiers who hunt monsters with an ability to shapeshift named Youma. With Europe setting in the middle ages, both mangas and anime offer something interesting to see. Sadly, the anime struck with a problem when the anime overlaps the manga’s arc due to the slow making process. In the end, the anime doesn’t have any choice aside from end the story in 2007, while the manga received a slightly altered ending that released afterwards.
7. Highschool of the Dead
Zombie trend in various media in the past few years also comes in Japan with a manga and anime titled Highschool of the Dead. Highschool of the Dead tells about how a group of high schooler must survive when everyone in Japan starting to turn into zombies.

8. Rurouni Kenshin
Rurouni Kenshin, also known as Samurai X, is an example of how a popular anime must “end” suddenly. This series tells about Kenshin Himura, an ex-assassin who promised to stop killing.
Once received success with two first seasons, the anime starting to overlap the manga at the beginning of the third season. Back then, the production team don’t have any choice aside from making unnecessary fillers to let the manga proceed. Sadly, this decision resulting in a bad ending as the popularity suddenly goes down and must be stopped.

Slam Dunk is a popular anime in the world back in the 90s and beginning of 2000s. It tells about Hanamichi Sakuragi, a high school delinquent who suddenly interested with basketball to approach the girl he likes.
With a total of 101 episodes, Slam Dunk anime must end exactly when Hanamichi’s team wants to participate in the national competition. There’s no clear reason what makes the anime ends even though the manga still ongoing and offers more interesting arc.
10. Hunter X Hunter
Hunter X Hunter is a popular manga by Yoshihiro Togashi that tells about Gon who wants to follow his father’s footsteps as a Hunter. In 1999, Hunter X Hunter once had 62 anime episodes. Sadly, the anime must end due to Togashi’s slow work pace to create the new chapter of Hunter X Hunter.
