Guy Savage Returns in Metal Gear Solid Delta
On August 26, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater officially launched for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X. Alongside stunning visuals, refined controls, and smoother gameplay, Konami surprised fans with the revival of Guy Savage, the mysterious minigame that once lived as Snake’s nightmare in the original MGS3.
In the classic version, Guy Savage could only be triggered through a specific save file after Snake’s torture sequence in Groznyj Grad. Players would suddenly find themselves in a bizarre dream where Snake took on the role of a sword-wielding warrior fighting humanoid monsters. The concept stemmed from a conversation about Renfield from Dracula, which eventually manifested as Snake’s unsettling nightmare.
PlatinumGames Brings a New Style
For the Delta remake, Konami partnered with PlatinumGames to give Guy Savage a brand-new look and feel. The prison setting is gone, replaced by a haunted graveyard dripping with gothic atmosphere, complete with a boss fight against none other than Dracula himself.
Combat has also been reimagined. Platinum’s signature hack-and-slash mechanics shine through with fast, fluid, and stylish action. The new Guy Savage may not be a fully fleshed-out mode, but it’s polished enough to stand as a fun break from Snake’s core stealth adventure.
A Hint Toward Castlevania’s Future?
PlatinumGames’ involvement has sparked speculation among fans. Many see this updated Guy Savage as a test run for a potential Castlevania revival. With Platinum’s pedigree in fast-paced action titles, the idea of them working on a gothic vampire game feels like a natural fit.
Whether or not that theory proves true, the new Guy Savage elevates Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater beyond nostalgia. It’s no longer just an easter egg—it’s a stylish side experience that blends modern action with classic Konami flair, leaving players both satisfied and curious about what might come next.
