Netflix’s phenomenal series, Money Heist, ended in 2021, yet that doesn’t mean the franchise is over. Following the massive success of the series, Netflix announced a spin-off series focusing on Berlin (Pedro Alonso), and a Korean version of the series set to be released in 2022. The popularity of K-dramas has been increasing since the release of Squid Game, and it has led to a remake of the world-renowned Spanish series.
From the cast to the mysterious trailer video, here are all the things that Dunia Games know so far about Money Heist: Korea. Without further ado, let’s get into it.
Release Date
The announcement for the Korean remake of Money Heist was first made in November 2020 but was only revealed further on 1 December 2021. This was revealed in a video featuring Park Hae-Soo, stating that he’ll be portraying Berlin in the Korean adaptation.
The first part of Monet Heist: Korea is slated for a release on 24 June 2022 as a Netflix exclusive. The announcement of the release date was certainly welcomed by fans of the Money Heist series given that the production was previously delayed due to the pandemic in the Summer of 2021. Money Heist: Korea will be released in a 12-episode format exclusively available on Netflix.
Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area Trailer
As filming concluded in early 2022, a trailer was released, featuring the cast and the official title of the Korean adaptation: Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area. In the trailer video, we can see the Professor in a secluded office, staring at a wall full of Korean traditional masks. We also see a plan for the heist.
The second trailer video was released back in May with more details about the plot. The story seems to revolve around financial cooperation between South Korea and North Korea for the creation of a new currency. Although it may sound like huge progress for both countries, it will only lead to the rich getting richer, and the poor suffering more. Apparently, the Korean remake of the series will cover a serious social issue just like the original version, but in a different and much more fictional setting. Recently, Money Heist: Korea released another trailer that features The Professor recruiting his elite members.

Cast
As shown in the trailer videos, this production will feature a lineup of star actors. Here are the members of the cast that have been revealed so far:
- Yoo Ji-Tae as Professor
- Park Hae-Soo as Berlin
- Jun Jong-Seo as Tokyo
- Lee Won Jong as Moscow
- Kim Ji-Hun as Denver
- Jang Yoon-Ju as Nairobi
- Park Jung-Woo as Rio
- Kim Ji-Hun as Helsinki
- Lee Kyu-Ho as Oslo
Although the members of the group have the same names as the ones in the Spanish version, Jun Jong Seo made sure that the characters will have different personalities. On top of that, Kim Yunjin will portray Seon Woojin and Kim Sung-O will play Cha Moohyuk, the two members of the task force. The hostages Cho Youngmin and Yoon Misun will be played by Park Myung-Hoon and Lee Joobeen respectively.
Plot
Since the Korean version will be an entirely new interpretation of the original series, it will retain the same main structure as its predecessor. This means that a group of robbers led by The Professor will pull off a complex heist without getting caught. However, as implied by the official title, the plot will revolve around the socio-economic conflict between the two sides of the Korean border in its effort to become a "Joint Economic Area", with a fictional place located on the border between South Korea and North Korea.
Aside from that, the trailer also explains that the newly-united Korean government will use the Joint Economic Area as a basis for creating a new economy with a new currency. Similar to the original series, the heroic robbers will try to pull off a heist, targeting the newly minted Korean currency. This may be quite exciting as the series will adopt a fresh perspective.
How Many Episodes Will Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area Have?
The first season will have 12 episodes, each about 1 hour long. Similar to the number of episodes in the first two seasons of the original Spanish series, before Netflix added the third. Season 1 will be divided into two parts, each will consist of 6 episodes.
