Steam No Longer Supports Windows 7 and 8 Starting 2024
Joining Fortnite, Steam can no longer run on Windows 7 and 8 operating systems in 2024.
News | 30 March
Valve announced that starting January 1, 2024, Steam will no longer support PCs running Windows 7 and 8 OS. For those of you who are still using the OS, Valve advises you to immediately upgrade to the latest version of Windows so you can continue to use the Steam service. Valve reasoned that Steam relies on Google Chrome, whose new version no longer supports Windows 7 and 8.
Before Valve made this announcement, Epic Games first asked Fortnite players to immediately upgrade their Windows OS if they still wanted to play it. Starting from Battle Royale Chapter 4 Season 2, Fortnite on PC no longer supports Windows 7 and 8 OS.
Termination of support for Windows 7 and 8 is not surprising, considering that Microsoft has indeed announced that they will end support for both operating systems. Support for Windows 7 ended in January 2020, while support for Windows 8 ended in January 2023.
This announcement impacts a large number of Steam users who are still using the older operating system. They will no longer be able to update their game or play the latest version of the game. So for those of you who are still using Windows 7 and 8 to access Steam, immediately upgrade your OS if you still want to access games in the Steam library.
