In the previous episode, Karasuno managed to defeat Date, known as the iron wall. They were preparing for the long-awaited National Tournament. Who will they meet in this tournament? Here are some facts from Haikyuu season 4 episode 9!

1. Daichi’s Worst Nightmare

At the beginning of the episode, before the opening to be more exact, Karasuno’s captain, Daichi, is having a nightmare. In that dream, the boy’s volleyball field is being used by the basketball team. None of his team members were seen around. One of the basketball team members even says that the only remaining member of the volleyball team is Daichi.

At that moment, Daichi wakes up from his sleep. He explains that the dream was the worst of this year. 

2. An Optimistic Manager

Before going to the National Tournament, Daichi, Asahi, and Sugawara goes and pray in a temple and takes fortune-telling. Suga and Daichi receive a “bright future”, while Asahi gets “curse”. Seeing the word “curse”, Asahi panics and loses his spirit. Karasuno’s Manager, Kiyoko adds that even with a prayer, they won’t necessarily be able to win. 

It further worsens the whole team’s spirit. However, Kiyoko also says that even without the help of the Gods, they would still be fine. This shows Kiyoko’s optimistic nature as well as her trust in her team members. Those words make the three Karasuno players touched.

3. Karasuno's Promotional Video

After training, coach Ukai gathers all Karasuno members to show something for them. It turns out to be a promotional video for Karasuno Boy’s Volleyball Club. The video was recorded by one of coach Ukai’s friends, Tattsan, which contains the best plays from each team member. 

Ukai has something in his mind by showing the video to them. Every player shown in the video has their own theme song. It’s intended to replays their best plays in their minds every time they hear the song. That way, they can maintain their best performance almost every time.

4. The Stage for the Best Players

The National Tournament has finally started with all the competing teams attending the opening ceremony. Prior to that, Karasuno has met various great teams and players, both the ones they have played against and the ones they haven’t. One of those players is Komori, a national team prospect who was once invited for a joint practice along with Kageyama.

Other players that they meet right there are Bokuto from Fukuradani, and Karasuno’s rival for many years, Nekoma. It seems that Nekoma has a new player, as well as Lev, who’s getting taller. Weirdly, Aoba Johsai, spearheaded by Oikawa, isn’t around, probably doesn’t even participate in the tournament.
