NXL Ligagame Wins VALORANT First Strike: Indonesia

The VALORANT First Strike: Indonesia has reached its peak on December 6, 2020. The finals of the VALORANT First Strike: Indonesia pitted the 16 best teams from all over Indonesia, 12 teams who made it from the qualifiers, and four invitational pro teams in the off-broadcast tournament, which started on December 2, 2020. 

In the online Grand Finals, Alter Ego Esports came up against NXL Ligagame for the VALORANT First Strike: Indonesia champion title. 

Before getting into the Grand Finals, Alter Ego Esports had a series of 2-0 clean sweeps against ZENITH in the last sixteen, ONIC Esports in the quarterfinals, and Morph Team in the semifinals. Meanwhile, NXL Ligagame defeated Aing Mau Esports 2-0 in the last sixteen, KONOHA in the quarterfinals, and BOOM Esports in the semifinals. 

In the Grand Finals, NXL Ligagame faced Alter Ego Esports in a best-of-5. NXL Ligagame won the first two rounds, on Haven and Ascent. However, Alter Ego Esports managed to catch up in Round 3 and 4 on Split and Icebox, which Alter Ego Esports seemed to have mastered. In a tight contest where both teams kept on overtaking each other, NXL Ligagame eventually triumphed on the last map, Split, in a 3-2 win. 

With this win, NXL Ligagame came out as the inaugural Champion of the first official Riot Games’ tournament in Indonesia, the VALORANT First Strike: Indonesia, and brought home a cash prize of IDR 60 million

Alter Ego Esports had to settle for the runner-up spot and bringing home prize money of IDR 20 million. In third place, Morph Team took home IDR 10 million and BOOM Esports received IDR 7.5 million in fourth. 

But that’s not all, NXL Ligagame’s FL1PZJDER received IDR 2.5 million as the Terminator Kill, after amassing 173 kills throughout the VALORANT First Strike: Indonesia

Edwin, One Up’s VP of Business Development, stated “We appreciate the enthusiasm that FPS games fans have shown, especially fans of VALORANT. With the VALORANT First Strike Indonesia, this proves that the ecosystem and community of FPS games are still alive and exist to this day, which is evident from the enthusiasm shown by both the audience and the participants in the VALORANT First Strike: Indonesia. We are also very proud, along with Riot Games, to bring the standard of esports tournaments to a higher new level, especially in Indonesia.” 

FL1PZJDER, the NXL Ligagame Captain, revealed, ”We are very proud to be the inaugural Champion of the first Riot Games’ official tournament in Indonesia, VALORANT First Strike: Indonesia. All of the hard work and preparation our team has made has brought great results. The VALORANT First Strike: Indonesia is the first step in the revival of FPS games in Indonesia that will bring new talents into the spotlight.”  

In line with NXL Ligagame, Chris Tran, the Riot Games Southeast Asia, Hongkong & Taiwan’s Head of Esports also said "We are certain that the winner of the VALORANT First Strike: Indonesia will inspire players and fans of VALORANT. So, in the future, more talents will emerge and show their prowess. This will certainly will bring a positive impact on the esports ecosystem in Indonesia,"

The VALORANT First Strike: Indonesia is a kick-off tournament under the collaboration between One Up and Riot Games in Indonesia. This tournament is held as part of a series of activities that Riot Games is initiating all over Southeast Asia. Since the registration for the VALORANT First Strike: Indonesia was opened, the tournament has seen a high enthusiasm from fans and has received positive responses from both players and fans of FPS games, as seen by the number of players who surpassed the minimum rank requirement (at least Diamond 1), not to mention that Valorant itself has just been released back in June, and has already broken the record for the “single-day hours watched in a single game category” on Twitch, 34 million hours watched with a total of 1.7 million viewers.
