It’s only logical that Shanks has mastered various kinds of Haki, ranging from Kenbunshoku, Busoshoku, and Haoshoku Haki. Shanks’ Kenbunshoku Haki may only be shown in One Piece: Pirate Warrior 3, but how strong is his Busoshoku and Haoshoku Haki? 

Busoshoku Haki

Shanks already had high mastery on his Busoshoku Haki as shown in the Battle of Marineford. With Haki channeled to his sword, Gryphon, Shanks could even withstand against Akainu’s magma fist. Though the fist is so strong that it was able to burn the likes of Ace, Jinbei, and even Shirohige. His Busoshoku Haki cannot be compared to other pirates’ skills.

Probably that’s what made Akainu stopped and withdrawn. Kurohige also seemed hesitant to deal with the Captain of the Red Hair Pirates and chose to flee and rearrange his plans.

Haoshoku Haki

Shanks was chosen as one of the few people who’s able to master Haoshoku Haki. The ability was first shown when Shanks helped Luffy from a sea monster’s attacks. 

Back then, Oda had not explained anything about the skill, but now we know that it was Haoshoku Haki. With just a stare, the sea monster knew he wouldn’t be able to win against Shanks as he swam away.

Another moment was when Shanks was boarding Shirohige’s ship to hold a meeting, many of Shirohige’s crew who lost their consciousness after getting Shanks’ Haoshoku Haki. What makes it interesting is that they’re not just another pirates since they’ve sailed into the New World. However, Shanks’ power is still far above their level.

In One Piece SBS volume 65, a fan asked, "Luffy’s Haoshoku Haki can wipe out to 50,000 people, then how many people can Shanks finish off?" Responding to the question, Oda explained that Shanks is able to obliterate 100,000 people. Not just Shanks, but Rayleigh is claimed to be able to reach that number. But on another note, we can’t ask how many people Haoshoku Haki can obliterate.

The opponents that can be crushed with Haoshoku Haki are the ones who already in huge power disparity compared with the user of the skill. In Luffy’s case, the power disparity was so large compared to the seamen. But if there are 100,000 highly-determined people, it is possible that the user may not be able to take any of them down.
