The Jolly Roger in One Piece is a distinctive symbol used by pirate groups to represent their identity. Every pirate ship in the One Piece world has a unique Jolly Roger design, which usually reflects the characteristics or personalities of their captain and crew.
The Red-Haired Pirates have a Jolly Roger depicting Shanks' scar over his left eye. However, Shanks himself considers it a mark of his pride. The author has an opinion on this. Shanks used the Jolly Roger not of his own free will, but rather of necessity.
In the past, Shanks likely fought Teach in a Davy Back Fight. A Davy Back Fight is a special competition played by pirate groups in the One Piece world, where one group challenges another to compete against their members in various games that test skill and strength.
If one group wins the game, they have the right to "take" a crew member from the losing group as part of their team. Another rule is that they can also choose the image of the defeated group to use as their Jolly Roger.
It's possible that Shanks lost the fight against Teach after his left eye was injured. Then Teach chose the scar as Shanks's Jolly Roger so they would always remember it. Please note that this is just an opinion, so don't take it seriously! What do you think is Shanks' reason for using the Jolly Roger?
