Grinding Gear Games officially announced the latest major update for Path of Exile 2 through a livestream titled "The Third Edict ." Game Director Jonathan Rogers introduced a variety of new content, including Act 4, Interludes, new leagues, and plans for a Free Weekend.

Path of Exile 2 

Act 4: Adventures in the Karui Archipelago

Path of Exile 2's story continues in Act 4, which takes players to the Karui Archipelago . Here, players can explore eight islands in a non-linear path, freely choosing which areas to conquer first. Act 4 introduces over 100 new monster types, 16 areas, 12 bosses , and various unique encounters.

Interlude Towards Endgame

In addition to Act 4, GGG introduces three Interlude Acts as a link to the endgame. These Interludes will take players up to level 65 without having to restart the campaign. These stories include returning to Ogham Village to confront the mysterious darkness in Holten, and helping Asala perform the Gifting of Water ritual in the Vastiri Desert.

New League: Rise of the Abyssal

As is the tradition with Path of Exile , this update also introduces a new league called Rise of the Abyssal . Players will discover a reward system, crafting, areas, and exclusive bosses available only in this league.

Major Changes to Characters and Items

Jonathan also announced a major overhaul of the support gem system , the addition of new skills, and various character buffs. Furthermore, there are significant updates to the crafting, item, and trading systems , which are promised to be fresher for the endgame.

First Free Weekend

Another exciting news is that Path of Exile 2 will hold its first Free Weekend at the launch of The Third Edict on August 29, 2025. For the first time, players can try the game without an Early Access key. The Free Weekend will run until September 1, 2025 .
