After Geralt and Yennefer help fight Nilfgaard's army outside Sodden, Yarpen Zingrin and his group of dwarves help escort Ciri back to Kaer Morhen. Unfortunately at that moment, Ciri is possessed by Voleth Meir. He is the one who offers Yen and Fringilla power if they do his bidding.

While being controlled by Voleth Meir, Ciri sneaks around Kaer Morhen and kills three witches before being finally stopped by Geralt. Ciri flees with the witches preparing for battle and Yennefer preparing to create a potion to save Ciri.

While Ciri is under Voleth Meir's spell, we see her hallucinating while attending a meeting with Mousesack and her grandmother, Calanthe. There, she danced and didn't realize what was going on in her real body.

In Cintra, Francesca and Filavandrel mourn the loss of their newborn elf baby, who has been killed by unknown forces. As an act of revenge, Francesca heads up Cintra, marking the city's newborn babies and killing them. As chaos occured, the remaining group of elves then left the city walls.

Cahir and Fringilla, who had just killed the last General Hake, were preparing for Emperor Emhyr's arrival to Cintra and hoped to use the death of the elf baby Francesca as political currency in Nilfgaard's war against their enemies.

Back in Kaer Morhen, Geralt and Vesemir manage to find Ciri who is hallucinating. In order to save Ciri, Yennefer realizes that she must become the next vessel for Voleth Meir. She cut her wrist and left Voleth Meir in pain so Ciri could escape.

Eventually Geralt and the others manage to defeat Voleth Meir in exchange for Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer being dragged to another realm and encountering The Wild Hunt, a shadowy group of horsemen intent on capturing Ciri.

The three fled back to Kaer Morhen just in time. Unfortunately, Wild Hunt's words made Ciri blaze because Wild Hunt really threatened Ciri to catch her.

Finally, Emhyr arrives at Cintra and tells Fringilla and Cahir that he orchestrated the death of Francesca's child. Emhyr is also looking for his son, Ciri. There Emhyr reveals that he is Duny, Ciri's father.
