10 Causes of God of War: Ragnarok
What causes Kratos to continue his adventure in God of War: Ragnarok later? Let's find out here.

One of the most anticipated PlayStation exclusive games of 2022 is God of War: Ragnarok. Based on the information provided by the Head of PlayStation Studios, God of War: Ragnarok will be the final story for Norse mythology. In the previous God of War series, Kratos did follow the Greek pantheon, but it seems that he ran out of opponents, so they had to move.
In the previous series, Kratos has faced several gods of Norse mythology, in Ragnarok, it seems that it will present a top-tier god in Norse mythology, one of which has been confirmed is Thor. For those of you who follow the God of War series, you must be wondering what triggered Kratos' battle against the gods from Norse mythology. So, here are the causes.
1. Faye's Death
One of the unsolved mysteries in God of War (2018) is the death of Kratos' second wife, Faye. At the beginning of the game, suddenly the mother of Atreus is said to have died and the information regarding the reason for her death is not yet fully known. But Faye's death is not without cause, because she is one of the parts in Norse mythology that is very influential in the emergence of Ragnarok's destiny.
Faye's death also causes the "fade of the spell" that protects her family from Odin. Therefore, Odin knows Kratos's presence in his territory and sends Baldur to eliminate Kratos from his territory. If Faye hasn't died, it's very likely that Atreus can unlock his god's power and provide a different storyline even though in the end it still triggers the resurrection of Ragnarok in God of War.
2. Kratos Found Poseidon's Trident
God of War fans must be wondering how Kratos was able to cross over to Norse mythology from Greek mythology? Although it has not been revealed for certain, it is likely that Kratos used Poseidon's Trident to carry him across the distant ocean.
As seen at the end of God of War III, Kratos had to traverse Greek mythology that was being hit by a Tsunami when he wanted to escape. This was likely done using the power of Poseidon's Trident. Because with this weapon it allows Kratos to breathe safely even though he is in the water and swim to the territory of Norse mythology. So this could also be the cause of God of War: Ragnarok.
3. Kratos Saw Zeus' Shadow
Even though Kratos has killed all the gods from Greek mythology, the shadow of his father aka Zeus still continues to be with him. Even when Kratos is on a journey to explore Hel to find the cure for Atreus, Kratos is surprised by the appearance of Zeus’ spirit who brings up his past.
At that time Zeus also warned Kratos that the curse of the circle of the god world would always involve conflict between parents and children. Kratos who had the thought of stopping the curse had also done it to the relationship between Baldur and Freya. But Baldur's attempt to kill Freya was forced to stop by Kratos by ending his life. Freya, who doesn't accept what Kratos has done, is likely to be the trigger for Ragnarok.
4. Atreus Killed Modi
The next possible cause is the death of Thor's son, Modi, who was killed by Atreus. Modi stereotyping Faye makes Atreus furious. Whereas Kratos had warned Atreus not to kill Modi which could lead to a more serious conflict. Atreus, who felt he had become a god, did what he wanted and drew a knife from his mother into Modi's neck and threw him into the ravine. Thor, who knows his son was killed, will certainly not stay silent and take revenge on those who killed his son. This will certainly be one of the triggers for the Ragnarok tragedy.
5. The Gods Rejected Kratos' Existence
Next is the existence of Kratos who was rejected by the gods. With what Kratos did in his past, of course, it was massive humiliation that prompted the other gods to kill him. Kratos went to the territory of Norse mythology to distance himself from his dark past. But his existence is not approved by the gods so Kratos must be eliminated. If the gods erased Kratos' bad memory, then he would be satisfied with his role as the God of War and never wreak havoc.
But even though Kratos tries to forget his past memories, he is still haunted by nightmares and can't control his anger completely. Marrying Faye only makes these memories "sealed" temporarily as a trigger for Ragnarok to begin.

6. Zeus Failed to Kill Kratos
If fate could be reversed, then Kratos should have been defeated by Zeus in God of War II. So that the prediction of Ragnarok in Norse mythology will not happen. But the fight between father and son is also spiced up by the cunning of Kratos who deceives Zeus by pretending to surrender. As a result, Zeus was killed by Kratos. If only Zeus had not been fooled by Kratos, he would have succeeded in killing his son and erasing the prediction of Ragnarok.
7. Kratos Lied to Atreus
Kratos' relationship with Atreus is not smooth, this is along with Atreus's character which is getting worse after the departure of his mother, Faye. Kratos understands Faye's request, which asks him to take care of Atreus so that he can grow up to continue his mother's dream. However, Kratos actually covered up the origin of Kratos' divine power. In fact, there are other secrets hidden by Kratos when he arrived at Jotunheim.
There is a painting that depicts Kratos having died kneeling on Atreus' body and it seems that Atreus will betray Kratos' prediction. But Kratos covered the painting and didn't tell Atreus. If only Kratos had told about the prophecy, maybe Atreus' destiny that started Ragnarok and Kratos' death could have been avoided.
8. Jormungandr Punched to the Past
One of the causes of Ragnarok in God of War is Thor's battle against Jormungandr in the future. However, Thor is able to beat The World Serpent to be sent to the past. In the future, Jormungandr is Loki's son so if Atreus is Loki then he is also the grandson of Kratos. It can be seen that Jormungandr is the strongest alliance owned by Atreus and Kratos today.
If Thor had not chosen to hit Jormungandr to the past, then he would never have met Atreus and Kratos to help him. As a being who is now very strong, the existence of Jormungandr plus the power of his father and grandfather would certainly be very troublesome for the gods in Norse mythology to stop him as one of the triggers for the Ragnarok incident to happen again.
9. Freya's Revenge
Freya finds out that Baldur is actually not a bad kid. But she was worried about her only child so she gave him magic to be immune to anything and could not feel anything. It actually made Baldur hate Freya who had made his life very boring. Therefore, Baldur was obsessed with killing his mother.
But the effort was stopped by Kratos and Atreus until finally Baldur died tragically. However, Freya, who really loves Baldur, feels guilty about what she did to her child. His death at the hands of Kratos and Atreus also triggered revenge against Kratos and Atreus for what he had done. Baldur's death also confirmed that Ragnarok would happen sooner than he had predicted.
10. Pandora Returned to Help Kratos
If Pandora did not return to help Kratos at the end of God of War III, then the prophecy of Ragnarok in Norse mythology should not have happened. But surprisingly, Pandora appears and saves Kratos who almost died at the hands of Zeus. She came to give Kratos a second chance by using her Power of Hope.
