For fans of superhero movies such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the DC Extended Universe, you probably already know the term anti-hero. There are many superhero films that have recently featured anti-hero characters that have turned out to be much liked by fans.
Take for example Deadpool in the MCU or Catwoman who is present in the DC Universe. They are a few examples of how the role of an anti-hero can be an important figure that even beats the role of the hero itself.
What is Hero
Before discussing what an anti-hero is, it is better to know what the meaning of the hero itself. The character who holds the role of the hero is someone who is liked with patriotic traits of defenders of the truth. Their purpose of life is to fight against evil that exists in the world.
This hero figure is easy to identify. Usually they are the main characters. Take Son Goku, Naruto, Luffy, and others in the anime for example. There are also popular heroes such as Captain America, Thor, Wonder Woman and Superman.
Villain the Evil Figure
If there is a good person, of course there is also an evil role that we used to call it a villain. They have the opposite role to the heroes. Villains did not hesitate to do everything to achieve their goal. Their goals sometimes cause a lot of problems. The most common is how the villain is determined to rule the world.

Anti-Hero between Good and Evil?
Well, after knowing the roles of heroes and villains, where is the position of an anti-hero then? An anti-hero is a hero who has characters or values that are contrary to heroes in general.
These anti-heroes actually do good things too, but they have unusual morals compared to the usual hero figure.
Anti-heroes don’t hesitate to do things beyond their limits, in order to uphold justice. This is why they are labeled “anti” as a sign of their contrast with the real heroes.
Even so, the anti-hero figures in the film even get more appreciation and respect. Because the anti-hero is able to describe real life or reality.
If the hero is always in the white line and the villain is in the black line, the anti-hero stands between the two of them. This anti-hero is a metaphor that no human being is really good or really bad.
There’s Also Anti-Villain
If there are anti-heroes, of course there are also anti-villain roles in the gray zone. The difference is, an anti-villain is a villain who behind his bad attitude has a good purpose.
For example, Thanos in Avengers: End Game. If we look from the outside, Thanos is the main enemy of the Avengers and civilians. He is a terrible monster who wants to wipe out half of the world’s population.
In fact, behind it all Thanos has a glorious goal to maintain the balance of an already overpopulated universe.
The role of anti-villains is also often debated. Are they a figure to be fought against or a figure worthy of praise.
