Solo Leveling is finally getting the long-awaited anime adaptation. At Anime Expo 2022, Aniplex, A-1 Pictures and Crunchyroll announced that an anime adaptation of the manhwa is currently in production. The plan is for Solo Leveling to air on Crunchyroll around 2023. However, A-1 Pictures, the production studio that will work on the anime adaptation, recently shared a trailer for Solo Leveling, giving fans a glimpse of Solo Leveling anime.

Solo Leveling Anime Trailer

A-1 Pictures posted the latest trailer video for Solo Leveling on the official Solo Leveling anime account regarding the follow-up description of the upcoming anime through a one-minute trailer that you can watch below.

Solo Leveling Anime Storyline

Solo Leveling tells a story where 'mysterious gates' are suddenly appearing around the world, connecting our world to a different dimension. Since then, certain humans received supernatural powers, they're referred to as Hunters. These Hunters then enter a dungeon inside the gates that are scattered around the world. Hunters make a living with their powers to subdue every monster in these dungeons.

One of the lower-level Hunters, Sung Jinwoo, was known as the weakest Hunter of all mankind. One day, he participated in a battle in a low-rank dungeon. There he got seriously injured and almost got killed by monsters, until a new quest appeared in front of him and Jinwoo accepted it. After receiving the quest, he learned that it slowly changed Jinwoo's life and raised his level as a Hunter.

Solo Leveling anime, which will be worked on by A-1 Pictures, also involves Shunsuke Nakashige as the director. It is also reported that Noboru Kimura is writing the script, Tomoko Sudo is designing the characters, and Hiroyuki Sawano is composing the music for the anime. In addition to that, Solo Leveling anime will also be streamed on Crunchyroll at the time of its release, as was first announced at the previous Anime Expo 2022. Solo Leveling is a manhwa created by Jang Sung-rak (DUBU), which was previously adapted from a web-novel titled Honjaman Lebel-eob (나 혼자만 레벨업) by Chugong.

Solo Leveling: The Differences on the Main Character

It's not that odd for an anime adaptation of a manga or manhwa to have some differences from its original work. Even after releasing the first trailer, Solo Leveling anime has raised many questions about how the storyline of the anime will be. Some even believe that it's likely that Solo Leveling anime will be totally different from the original manhwa.

The biggest difference that we can see from the trailer is the name of the main character Sung Jin Woo, who's been renamed as Shun Mizushino. Instead of focusing on the South Korean protagonist Sung Jin Woo, A-1 Pictures instead introduced a Japanese man named Shun Mizushino:

Solo Leveling Anime: Differences Between the Art Style and the Japanese Light Novel

Apart from that, another drastic difference is in the Japanese version of the light novel. In addition to the name change mentioned before, the art style is also dramatically different. Although the storyline remains the same as the manhwa, this difference in art style has raised some different responses among fans. Some say that the art style of the Solo Leveling anime will adapt a lot of images based on Japanese anime influences.

Solo Leveling: The Differences on the Ending

If you've read the webtoon and novel versions of Solo Leveling, you might notice that there are differences in the endings of the two versions. In the webtoon, up to chapter 179, it is unclear what happened after Sung Jin Woo drank the Cup of Reincarnation from the Ruler to fight the Monarch, which took him back to 10 years prior to the the inception of first gate and erased the entire timeline where there was no world at all with dungeon gates or Hunters.

It was only after that that a Solo Leveling side story was introduced on the webtoon, which explained the final event just like in the Solo Leveling novel.

After Sung Jin Woo turned back time and got reunited with his family, he still had his powers, then he became a detective by utilizing the powers in his body to revive victims and ask who the killer was. This side story also explains how he ended up marrying the S rank hunter, Chae In, and had a son who inherits his powers.

There are only three people who know the real identity of Sung Jin Woo, namely Jinhoo's father, Woo Jin Cheul who shares memories with Jin Woo, and Jinwoo's wife. That also includes his son, so that's a total of four people who know the secret of this power. It's unclear how the Solo Leveling anime will end, but fans hope that however the anime ends, it will be as good as the manhwa story from the late DUBU.

Solo Leveling Anime: Release Date

From the latest trailer for Solo Leveling, it's been clarified when the Solo Leveling anime will be released. It was previously rumored to be coming in 2023, but at the end of the trailer, you can see at the estimated release date of the Solo Leveling anime, which is likely to come next winter, which makes fans hope to see it soon in the upcoming January 2024 release.

Seems like Solo Leveling fans will have to wait a bit longer for the release of the anime adaptation. What do you think about the differences from Solo Leveling manhwa, novel, and anime?
