Coach Adi's career history can inspire many MOBA lovers in the country. Originally a Dota 2 pro player, Coach Adi ended up becoming the coach of an MLBB team. While serving as the MLBB coach for RRQ Hoshi team, Adi had never even played Mobile Legends.
In an interview with Jonathan Liandi on Thursday (13/4), the Coach who used to be called Acil revealed his career journey in the eSport industry. Adi revealed that he has been playing games since elementary school. At that time he had formed a small team consisting of his own friends.
In 2016 he officially joined RRQ as a Dota 2 pro player. At RRQ, Adi managed to make a number of achievements including representing Indonesia in international competitions.
"Maybe people don't know, RRQ is my first professional team," said Coach Adi while glancing to the top right, trying to remember that time.
Entering 2020, Coach Adi started to get nervous. He was planning to leave RRQ because the Dota division would be disbanded. But on the other hand, his contract as a pro player at RRQ was still running.
"...Then I finally said, I want to join other team, I want to find a team that still wants to make Dota," said Coach Adi.
While registering for a new team, Adi suddenly received an offer from RRQ officials to become the MLBB Coach of the RRQ team. Of course Adi felt weird and asked why he was chosen?
"(at that time he answered) because I (RRQ boss) felt that RRQ Mobile Legends needed a coach who already knew the players," said Coach Adi, imitating the answer of Mr. Riki, who was then the boss of RRQ.
Hearing this answer, Coach Adi realized that he was indeed close to the three pillars of RRQ Mobile Legends, namely Tuturu, Lemon, and Liam.
Although he had no experience as an MLBB player, he ventured to accept the offer. From here he began to focus and explore MLBB.
"At that time, I really immediately watched replays and matches non-stop for a whole month, in order to pursue knowledge about Mobile Legends," said Adi excitedly.
Adi then got his first crack when there was a new patch related to jungle items. At that time because it was a new system in Mobile Legends, of course even experienced pro players did not understand the concept. From there Adi began to enter and teach tricks about junglers to his team.
Of course then as we know, Adi's journey as RRQ's coach was not easy. He repeatedly received hate speech and criticism from netizens because he was considered to have always failed to bring his team to the glory.
Adi, who at that time still bore the name Acil, was even nicknamed the runner-up curse, aka the coach who was only able to bring the team to second place. Until finally he decided to resign and join Onic.
Coach Adi has now officially taken up his duties coaching the Onic team and is the assistant coach for the upcoming SEA Games in Cambodia. He even contributed to Onic's brilliant victory in MPL ID S11 yesterday.
Such is the journey of Coach Adi's career. It turns out that where there is courage, there is a way. What do you think of this story? Try to write an opinion in the comment column.
