Squid Game has become one of the most talked about films in recent days. Airing exclusively on Netflix, the film by director Hwang Dong-hyuk managed to take success by holding the record as the most popular daily Korean drama Netflix worldwide.

Squid Game was able to steal the attention of movie fans by raising six traditional South Korean children's games as a survival event for 456 people who competed for a prize of 45.6 billion won.

Throughout the 9 episodes, the audience will continue to be made to wonder about the plot of the film. What game is played next? Who is the mastermind behind the game? What is the purpose of the game being held?

If you are observant enough, there are actually many clues that are shown from the beginning of the film to answer these questions. So, what are the clues? Let's look at the 7 hidden clues in this Squid Game.

Because it will contain a lot of spoilers, those of you who haven't watched it better just read up here.

1. Games Played

There are six types of traditional South Korean children's games that Squid Game participants must play. However, none of the participants knew what the game was.

Actually, there are hidden clues regarding this traditional game. These six traditional games are written on the walls of the large room where the participants sleep. This hint was first seen when the staff explained the rules of the game.

2. Set Design in Marbles Game

Oh Il-nam is the key figure behind the Squid Game. He is the one who designs all the games. One of these clues appears when entering the marbles game.

The Squid Game participants enter a room designed to resemble a densely populated village area. Oh Il-nam kept on blabbering about the alleys and houses that looked familiar to his own hometown.

But when you find out that 001 is behind Squid Game, it's no surprise that it all looks so familiar to Oh Il-nam since he was the one who designed the set.

3. Decisive Vote

At the beginning of the Squid Game, all the participants are scared of what will happen to them. Using rule number 3, they also held a vote to determine whether the game would continue or not.

When the voting was a draw, Oh Il-nam was the last person to vote and at the same time determined whether the Squid Game would be stopped or continued.

As is well known, Oh Il-nam chose the red button which meant the game was stopped. This actually shows a hint that Oh Il-nam gives freedom to every participant who doesn't want to take part in the Squid Game because the stakes are lives. Like the quote at the end of the film, where he doesn't force anyone who wants to be involved in the Squid Game.

4. Oh Il-nam Has No Past

All the main characters of Squid Game are told to have a backstory of financial problems. Gi-hun is in debt because of gambling, Sang-woo runs away from the authorities because of financial fraud, Sae-byeok desperately needs to pay for his mother to cross to South Korea, and Ali lives as an illegal immigrant whose salary has not been paid for 6 month.

Oh Il-nam is a character whose past is still mysterious. He only suffered from a brain tumor without mentioning if he needed money. That is one of the clues that On Il-nam is indeed the person behind the Squid Game.

5. Chaos in the Break Room

When all the participants get into chaos in the break room after learning that killing each other in the dorm is allowed, 001 or Oh Il-nam realizes that he is in real danger and has no protection. He knew he would be an easy target for those who wanted to kill him.

So he climbed into bed and pleaded directly to the camera for the rioting to stop. The Front Man realized that Oh Il-nam was in danger and rushed to stop the chaos.

6. Player Book Starting with Number 002

The infiltrated Jun-Ho found the Squid Game archive room. There, he opened a book containing all the participants who took part in the 2020 Squid Game.

But when he looked through the players in the current game, the number 001 was omitted and the file started at 002. This was because Oh Il-nam certainly didn't need any background information about himself.

7. Oh Il-nam's Death Not Shown

One of the other big clues is the death of Oh Il-nam which is not shown directly. When he lost the game of marbles against Gi-hun at the last second, Oh Il-nam was executed by the Squid Game staff. But only gunshots were heard, without revealing the dead body of Oh Il-nam.

This is the plot twist when at the end of the film, it is shown that Oh Il-nam is still alive in a luxurious building.
