In the previous titles of the series, GTA players are no stranger to the 6-star wanted level. When they get 6 stars, players have to deal with or escape from the army units with their tanks and advanced armory.

But in GTA 5, Rockstar is implementing a different system. No more tanks or army units chasing down either Michael, Franklin, or Trevor since the maximum wanted level in this game is 5.

Although it may feel strange for some, players have become accustomed to the maximum wanted level of 5 stars in GTA 5. Until eventually, the Redditor, GlassGoose45, found some codes in GTA 5 that indicate 6-star wanted level.

In their post, GlassGoose45 shows a strain of code that appears in almost all GTA 5 scripts:

PLAYER::SET_MAX_WANTED_LEVEL(5);

For missions where Michael, Franklin, and Trevor won’t get any wanted level, they found this code:

PLAYER::SET_MAX_WANTED_LEVEL(0);

But on top of that, GlassGoose45 also found this code in the GTA5V script:

PLAYER::SET_MAX_WANTED_LEVEL(6);

Since the discovery of this particular line of code, the GTA community has been wondering the truth about the 6-star wanted level. The speculation regarding the easter egg of the max wanted level in GTA 5 started to emerge. But up until now, no player has managed to trigger the 6-star wanted level without using a mod or a trainer.

In the video above, I used a Cheat Engine to set the wanted level in GTA 5. If I set the value using the Cheat Engine to 1, I get 1-star wanted level in GTA 5. If I set it to 3, I get 3-star wanted level, and so on.

Now, when I set it to 6, for the first time, I get 6 stars in GTA 5. Yet unfortunately, there’s no difference between 5-star and 6-star wanted levels. No tank nor army units chasing down Franklin, similar to 5-star wanted level, I only get NOOSE units.

Since I was still curious about the maximum wanted level, I set the value using the Cheat Engine to 7. Instead of getting 7-stars, the game crashed.

Based on the facts above, it’s fair to assume that the 6-star wanted level in the GTA 5 script is just an unusable code. Or, it’s also possible that the 6-star wanted level was part of the beta version of GTA 5 that got canceled by Rockstar on its release.

After all, there were lots of content, missions, and dialogues that got scrapped from the beta version to provide the best gameplay and storyline for the players.
