Primal Groudon made its debut during the Test Raid in Las Vegas, USA, on 17 February 2023. The Raid appeared the day before the Hoenn Tour 2023 event began.

It was quite a surprise for Pokemon GO Trainers, even though the next day, 18-19 February 2023 the Primal Groudon Raid officially took place.

Participants who have purchased tickets for the Hoenn Tour Las Vegas can encounter and take on the Primal Groudon Raid. If you manage to defeat it, Trainers would receive Groudon Primal Energy, which could be used to transform Groudon into Primal Groudon through the Primal Reversion mechanics.

This was certainly what Pokemon GO Trainers all over the world would like to get, not just those who attended the Hoenn Tour Las Vegas event.

So, how can you beat Primal Groudon? A week after the Hoenn Tour Las Vegas event ended, there was a global and free Hoenn Tour event on Pokemon GO. On 25-26 February 2023 from 10:00 to 18:00 local time, all Trainers could take part in this event. Of course, apart from the arrival of Hoenn Pokemon, you could also take on the Primal Groudon Raid Battles.

Raid Boss Primal Groudon has a CP of 92,860! So, how do you beat it? Primal Groudon is slightly different from the usual Ground-type Groudon as in this Primal form, it has both Ground and Fire-type attacks.

Use a Water-type attack for the 256% damage boost against Primal Groudon. Some of the best Pokemon to counter it are Mega Swampert, Primal Kyogre/regular Kyogre, Mega Blastoise, Mega Gyarados, or Shadow Swampert.

If you don't have these super counters, you can use more common Pokemon, such as Gyarados, Swampert, Kingler, Feraligatr, etc. You can also use Ground-type attacks for the 160% damage boost. Fight Primal Groudon with 3 friends with powerful lineups. You can also play with more friends against Primal Groudon to ensure your victory.

Once you managed to defeat Primal Groudon, you could get Groudon Primal Energy and have the opportunity to catch Groudon with a maximum CP of 2351 (level 20) or a maximum CP of 2939 (Level25) during the Sunny weatherboost. If you're lucky, you could even get a light-yellowish-green Shiny Groudon.

Based on the Hoenn Tour Las Vegas event, a Trainer could receive 80 Primal Energy from 1 Primal Raid victory. Since it takes 400 Groudon Primal Energy for Primal Reversion, Trainers should at least win Groudon Primal Raid several times to get enough energy.

Once you have enough Groudon Primal Energy, you can perform Primal Reversion for your Groudon. Even though Primal Reversion only lasts 8 hours, once the cooldown is over, you can do Primal Reversion again for free without Primal Energy on your Groudon.

In battles, Primal Groudon boosts other Ground, Grass, or Fire-type Pokemon. Primal Groudon with its new moveset, Precipice Blades, during the Hoenn Tour event, will become the strongest Ground Pokemon! Good luck on catching Primal Groudon, Trainers!
