The PUBG Mobile Super League (PMSL) SEA Summer 2025 Grand Final has ended on Sunday, June 22, 2025 where the Thai team, eArena, managed to become the champion after conquering the PMSL Smash Rule. For a total of 3 days since Friday, June 20, 2025, all teams have given their best performance.

Including teams from Indonesia, they have given their best performance for 3 days where they tried hard to gain important points through every Winner-Winner Chicken Dinner (WWCD) they got. The competition in the PMSL SEA Summer 2025 Grand Final was incredibly hot.

The first day was dominated by Indonesian teams and some teams from Vietnam. However, the battlefield on the second day was very unexpected. Teams from Thailand rose and proved their worth in this competition. Likewise with the resistance given by teams from Malaysia.

The implementation of the PMSL Smash Rule in the Grand Final really changed a lot of things. Including the power map, game patterns and strategies of all teams in the Grand Final. Achieving the highest points is the main mission, and when the points threshold is reached, the team only needs to get WWCD and become champions.

Pros and Cons of PMSL SEA Summer 2025 Smash Rule, This is the Opinion of Coach AE RDK and BOOM Owljan

Although the PMSL SEA Summer 2025 Grand Final has ended, there are still questions about how the PMSL Smash Rule should be implemented. Many fans are quite questioning the implementation of the PMSL Smash Rule which seems to "shorten" the duration of the Grand Final.

In the SEA-nergy PMSL event with PUBG Mobile Indonesia, several panelists expressed their opinions regarding the PMSL Smash Rule implemented in the Grand Final. Alter Ego Ares coach, Rido Dwiki "RDK" Kurnia stated that the addition of 10 points from the set threshold was too small.

So he considered that when in game 1 the team that had already obtained the points threshold (match point) was very likely to become champions and end the tournament with only 2 games. He added that the point system should be reviewed with a larger number and become the best decision for many parties.

“From my perspective, I can say that 10 points is too small. You could say that (when) match 1 (the team) gets 10 points, it is very possible. So, it would be a shame (if) the Grand Final (is held) offline, ending in match 2 like that,” said RDK. “(My suggestion) is that the point addition system could be improved a little. Maybe it could be 30 so that the players feel comfortable,”

“From the audience (it feels) comfortable, maybe it could be improved so that it can end in match 4 so that it is not too short. Honestly, I (as) the coaching staff just arrived (the match) was over. It wasn’t even hot yet,” added RDK.

Another opinion came from BOOM Esports General Manager Marzarian “Owljan” Sahita who considered that the PMSL Smash Rule seemed inappropriate to apply. This opinion was conveyed by him regardless of the results achieved by BOOM Esports which were considered not to meet the team's targets.

"This is a disclaimer first, first, I am conveying this opinion not because my team (BOOM) did not qualify for EWC or did not win. In my opinion, objectively, if we look at it from an entertainment perspective, I feel that this Smash Rule is actually not quite right to use," said Owljan.

Owljan added that he saw that the implementation of the PMSL Smash Rule in the Grand Final reduced the essence of the Grand Final. Even if the point threshold was increased or the number of matches was increased to reach match point, it was still considered inefficient.

"Because, there are many things in my opinion that make the final less exciting if using the Smash Rule. I had thought, if maybe the additional points to reach match point were increased or maybe the number of matches was increased, in my opinion it would still be inefficient," added Owljan.

Owljan stated that he did not agree with the implementation of the Smash Rule in the Grand Final. Although it does have a positive purpose, however, he saw and compared this system with the Super Weekend system. Once again he felt he did not agree with the existence of the PMSL Smash Rule.

"If I do not agree (with the Smash Rule), why? Because like this, we have to look back at why this rule (Smash Rule) was made? The goal is actually to make the match more exciting, the competition becomes more pronounced until the final match still feels nervous,"

"But in reality, when we talk about the Grand Final which (runs) two days before finally entering the Smash Rule system, there is the potential for the gap (points) between the (teams) above and the (teams) below to be large. It's different if we talk about Super Weekend, Super Weekend is only 1 day. To then add 10 points, there is still a chance for the other teams to catch up," he explained.

"But if from (a total of) 12 matches, even if we add 20 or 30 to reach the match point, I think it will still be far. So the main goal (Smash Rule) which is said to make it more competitive will not be achieved. That's my opinion," he concluded.

What do you think? Is the implementation of the PMSL SEA Summer 2025 Smash Rule right on target? Or maybe it needs to be reviewed for the next tournament series? Let's just wait and see.
