1. Blue/White Lightning Release

The most common color from Lightning Release jutsu is a white flash wrapped in light blue. In its pure chakra form, the lightning that covers the user’s body or weapon is colored light blue.

The type Lightning Releaser jutsu with this color is Chidori, Raikiri, Chakra Mode Elemen Listrik, Limelight, Jigokuzuki, Lightning Release: Ibuki, and many more.

2. Yellow Lightning Release

On the other side, the yellow Lightning Release started to appear more with the serialization of Boruto. Interestingly, the Lightning Release jutsu launched by Raiga Kurotsuki or Ringo Ameyuri from Kiba’s sword was colored blue and now the color turns yellow after Buntan Kurosuki holds them. From this, we can assume that the difference between blue and yellow Lightning Release is not about the power.

The jutsu included in yellow Lightning Release are Hebi Mikazuchi, Raikyuu, Ikazuchi no Utage, and Raigyo.

3. Two Types of Black Lightning Release

The most striking (and somewhat odd) is black. Black Lightning is a technique from Kumogakure and handed down for generation. No one knows why the Third Raikage only taught Darui this jutsu.

Not a lot is known about Black Lightning other than its color and that the person who learns the technique has a tattoo of kaminari (雷) on their shoulder. The secret is hidden really well, so fans assumed that the destructive power of Black Lightning far exceeded normal other Lightning Release.

There’s another reason why a Lightning Release jutsu can turn black. When the user obtained the chakra of Hagoromo Otsutsuki the Rikudo Sennin, then the color of their Lightning Release may turn to black like Sasuke’s Chidori and Kakashi’s Kamui Raikiri during the Fourth Shinobi World War.

However, you can obtain the color using the senjutsu chakra. Because Sasuke once used Chidori in similar color under the influence of Orochimaru’s curse when fighting Naruto at the Valley fo the End.

The striking difference between Black lightning and Rikudo’s Lightning Chakra is the aura; the Black Lighting got a purple-ish aura and Rikudoi’s Lightning Chakra is pitch black.

4. Purple Lightning Release, Only Kakashi?

Last but not least is the purple-colored Lightning Release jutsu. The technique is specific to Kakashi’s new technique, Shiden, that he developed after he can no longer use Raikiri because he lost his Sharingan.

Shiden can be used to stab like Chidori or Raikiri, thrown to the target from mid-rage, creating flashes of electricity around the body and area like Chidori Nagashi, and according to Kakashi Hiden: Lightning in the Icy Sky, the jutsu can cause rain when fired to the sky.

Still, Shiden is not the first purple-colored Lightning Jutsu. It’s because Madara Uchiha used  Senpo: Inton Raiha during the Fourth Shinobi World War!

Utilizing the Yin chakra and nature, Madara can use lightning to catch his opponent. But the official print shows that the color of this jutsu is purple, unlike the anime and Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 version that is colored purple. If we think of it as a purple Lightning Release, then it’s obvious the nature energy causes the user’s power to increase and affect Lightning Release jutsu.
