We often see ninjas in the series Naruto and Boruto do unusual hand signs before launching their jutsu. It's a common thing in the ninja world, this is called 'hand seal'.

The seal is designed to aid people to gather their chakra to activate ninjutsu, genjutsu, and other techniques other than taijutsu. 

There are various hand seal combinations created for each jutsu. That why a ninja has to train to remember each combination and to activate their jutsu quickly; because the wrong combination will not launch a jutsu!

Before we go and see the hand seals from famous jutsus, it's best if we learn the basic seals first. There are 12 basic seals and they are named after animals

1. Monkey (申, Saru): Hand seal used on fire and earth elements,
2. Dragon (辰, Tatsu),
3. Rat (子, Ne): Hand seal used on shadow elements owned by the Nara Clan,
4. Bird (酉, Tori), Hand seal used on wind element,
5. Snake (巳, Mi): Hand seal used on earth, thunder, and wood elements,
6. Ox (丑, Ushi),
7. Dog (戌, Inu): Hand seal used on water element,
8. Horse (午, Uma),
9. Tiger (寅, Tora),
10. Boar (亥, I),
11. Ram (未, Hitsuji),
12. Hare (卯, U).

Usually, a difficult jutsu requires more hand seal combination to be launched. But a great ninja can activate a difficult jutsu with less hand seal combination normally used; even with just one seal.

For example, Water Element: Suiryuudan no Jutsu a high-level jutsu, requires 44 hand seals. But Tobirama Senju can use one hand seal to activate the jutsu. Also Sasuke Uchiha after the Fourth Shinobi World War, can execute Chidori with just one hand.

Here is some hand seal combination for famous jutsu that's both simple and easy to copy.

1. Fire Release: Ryuka no Jutsu

• Seal combination: Snake > Dragon > Hare > Tiger

A fire element jutsu. The fire spits out by the user will spread from a thread or other long objects, straight toward the enemy and burn them.

2. Fire Release: Gokakyu no Jutsu

• Seal combination: Horse > Snake > Ram > Monkey > Boar > Horse > Tiger

The user gathers the chakra inside their body then changes it to fire and spit it out from their mouth. The fire comes out as a fireball or a spray of fire. The main jutsu of the Uchiha Clan.

3. Chidori

• Seal combination: Monkey > Dragon > Rat > Bird > Ox > Snake > Dog > Tiger > Monkey

Jutsu created by Kakashi Hatake. To use it the user needs to gather Thunder Release chakra on their hand then pierce the enemy in high speed; resulting in a fatal blow to the enemy but consumes a huge amount of chakra 

With this hang seals, you can practice how the ninjas activate their jutsu. If you master the hand seal combination for Chidori, you might be able to do a real Chidori -- MIGHT!
