Hello everyone! On this occasion, Dunia Games will introduce a new column that’s going to be a monthly column titled “Legends of the Month.” It’s a column to appreciate and honor the figures that made an impact in the Indonesian esports industry. Today Dunia Games will introduce you to Rezaly Surya Afhany.

Known as Bang Jaly, he s staff at Telkomsel since 2004. His journey to get to where he is not as smooth as many people thought. He faced a lot of challenges to get to where he is today.

He moved from department to department, from the sales, community, grapari, and even reporting. In 2015, Bang Jaly joins the subdir of digital content specialist that was the 2nd wave product of legacy telco.

So, what makes Bang Jaly involved in the gaming world? It all started with his idea to introduce a payment tool, especially for Telkomsel customers when purchasing a game credit.

From there Bang Jaly made an approach via media to roadshow in form of small grassroot tournaments --  in hopes to change the bad stigma about games in Indonesia.

IGC 2017 was held with 7 games that are split into two categories, PC and Mobile -- with a total prize of Rp500,000,000. The games are:

  • PC Game: Dota 2, Point Blank, and World of Tanks.
  • Mobile Game: Vainglory, Clash Royale, Crisis Action, and LINE Let’s Get Rich

In his effort to grow esports in Indonesia, Bang Jaly not only invite the best Dota 2 team from Indonesia such as EVOS, Rex Regum Qeon, The Prime.NND, and Boom.ID -- he also invited the 16 strongest teams in Southeast Asia such as:

  1. Bazaar - Malaysia
  2. Bazaar.Youth - Malaysia
  3. Clutch Gamers - Filipina
  4. Eagles Gigabyte - Thailand
  5. Entity Esports - India
  6. Execration - Philippines
  7. GeekFam - Malaysia
  8. HappyFeet - Philippines
  9. Intelligence Quotient - Cambodia
  10. Mineski.GG - Philippines
  11. MiTH - Thailand
  12. NextGen - Vietnam
  13. PewPew - Vietnam
  14. SeeYouAgain -  Australia
  15. The Mongolz - Mongolia
  16. TrusT - Thailand

The tournament organized by Dunia Games was quite successful -- even at the regional qualifier level. In Medan, the audience was still hyped despite the pouring rain to watch the Dota 2 matches in Britania Cyber Sports.

The audience came from outside of Medan too, they came from big cities such as Pekanbaru and Padang.

The gate was opened at 9:00 AM. Those who can’t get inside can watch the games via the big screen outside of the arena. The tournament was met with a positive response.

We can’t deny that Indonesia Games Championship 2017 brought a new scene for esports in Indonesia until, in 2018, Bang Jaly and Dunia Games organized another tournament with a bigger prize, Rp600,000,000.

Unlike the past year with 7 video games being competed, IGC 2018 presents 5 games but the tournament was more exciting and lively.  Those games are Dota 2, Arena of Valor, Mobile Legends, Vainglory, and LINE Let’s Get Rich.

Not just the popular games tournament, there’s also a performance from cosplayers. Famous YouTubers also take part in celebrating IGC 2018 such as Afif Yulistian, Miawaug, Omsenanggamer27, EJ Gaming, Dyland PROS, and many more.

IGC 2018 is said to be an event that helped the community grow closer with their favorite team with events like meet and greet the Mobile Legends team, EVOS Esports -- with Oura and Jess No Limit as the main star.

Bang Jaly’s effort to make esport grow in Indonesia doesn’t stop there. In 2019, he made a new project named Dunia Games League (DGL) with a different format.

If IGC 2018 was held for one month -- then DGL is held for five months, starting with the qualifier to the grand final. The qualifiers were split into different cities that later called Amateur League (a platform for gamers to get into esport) with games such as Mobile Legends.

Alongside the launch of DGL, Bang Jaly also introduced Dunia Games Campus League (DGCL) for college students in Indonesia and Pro League (DGPL) for pro players from Free Fire.

In DGL, ONIC won the Mobile Legends tournament after beating Star8 Esports after an intense battle.

In game two, ONIC was troubled, but the team consisting of Sasa, Udil, Psychoo, Wann, and Neyy successfully dominate the last two games -- helping them win with a final score of 3-1.

In DCL, the Free Fire tournament saw the 12 strongest teams competing. The tournament was held for 7 rounds and SFI.ZET won it all.

Not stopping there, SFI.ZET also registered themself as a pro team under the name SFI Zet Hades. The team won again with their roster consisting of Yami, Legaeloth, Lord, and Azura, with their win the team takes home Rp250 million.

DGL, DGCL, and DGPL was held from October 2018 until April 2019 and becomes one of the biggest milestones for Bang Jaly, because it was joined by more than 25.000 gamers from Indonesia. The online qualifiers that were aired on YouTube had a total of 5 million views with a total duration of 35 million minutes!

Bang Jaly doesn’t just make esports big in Indonesia, he also launched several programs with the purpose of helping others such as #DGHealing. With this program, Bang Jaly asks every gamer to help the medical workers fight against COVID-19.

Joining the program is easy, you only need to watch PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends, and Arena of Valor tournaments where teams from all over Indonesia will compete. The winning prize is later donated via kitabisa.com. The link to donate directly to the kitabisa.com is also provided for gamers who wanted to donate directly to the cause. With this method, Bang jaly and Dunia Games managed to raise Rp42 million.

Bang Jaly’s effort to make Dunia Games a platform for esports doesn’t stop with big competitions. In 2019, he made a breakthrough by introducing Dunia Games Waktu Indonesia Bermain (DGWIB). In this program, Bang Jaly organized a weekly tournament with a decent prize pool.

Starting with Mobile Legends, PUBG Mobile, Free Fire, AOV, to even PC games such as League of Legends will have it turns to be made into a competition so gamers from every game can experience the competitive field. DGWIB doesn’t just introduce numerous pro players but also introduced the rising amateur teams to the audience.

The method is believed to be the most effective to help esports grow in Indonesia, and helped amateur teams experience playing against pro teams.

Thanks to the program’s success, gamers are interested to join the tournament -- it’s proven by the growing number of viewers when DGBWIB is on air on the Dunia Games’ YouTube Channel like the final of DGWIB PUBG Mobile S4 that gets 492 thousand views, and not counting the previous days. DGWIB is one of the ways Bang Jaly wanted to develop his own esports team named DG Esports.

Speaking of DG Esports, the team started with Arena of Valor last 2018, with the acquisition of team Relative Risk. This is the main roster:

  • Priyagung ‘RuiChen’ Satriono - Observer
  • Andra ‘Abud’ Rizkita - Dark Slayer Lane
  • Frankie ‘Easy’ Anthony - Middle Lane
  • Wahyu ‘siMontok’ Febri - Jungler
  • Bryan ‘MightB’ Tamin - Abyssal Lane
  • Taufik ‘Ayep’ Sopandi - Abyssal Lane
  • Yosia ‘Y22’ Karisma - Manager/Coach

If you watched AOV Star League S1, then you are familiar with the big names. The success of DG Esports at ASL helped them spread their wings to other big teams such as RuiChen that is now the coach of AOV EVOS, Easy that moved to RRQ, or SiMontok that moved to SES (although he returns to DG Esports again later).

Speaking of AOV, DG Esports is one of the strongest teams. It’s proven by how they represent Indonesia at AOV Premier League (APL) 2020 alongside ELVO. This is the current DG Esports roster:

  • Taufik ‘Ayep’ Sopandi
  • Yayan ‘Backdoor’ Hidayat
  • Muhhamad ‘MAMMON’ Fikri
  • Agus ‘SKRULL’ Fernando
  • Ade ‘Melo’ Kurnia Febriansyah

Bang Jaly is quite successful in his journey to form an esports team. To this date, Dunia Games has several esports division besides AOV, such as Mobile Legends, Free Fire, CODM, and PUBG.

DG Esports also has great achievements. One of them is from the CODM division where they win Major Series S2. This is their current CODM roster:

  • Alif ‘VenomZT’ Rezky M (Support);
  • Andhika ‘CloverZT’ Syukur (Rusher);
  • M. Raihan ‘EhannZT’ Akbar (Sniper);
  • M. Rivaturahman ‘ZenツZT’ (Rusher);
  • Nizar ‘JetskyZT’ Alberic (Support).

They surprised the CODM pro scene after beating the reigning season 1 champion, GGWP with a score of 2-1 and becoming the runner-up after losing against Bigetron Duty.

Their journey wasn’t easy. They started with the Bandung Qualifier and only managed to finish as a runner-up.

Because they finished as a runner-up, DG Esports participated in another qualifier in Jogja. With a well-executed play, team DG Esports reach the first place to continue to the Major Series S2 Qualifier.

Here DG Esports successfully gets to second place with a total of 13 wins and 2 losses. With this record, DG Esports continues to the grand final of CODM Major Series S2.

You can see bang Jaly’s consistency in helping esports grow in Indonesia. Starting from organizing tournaments to forming his own team, and it’s a because of his passion for esports. Currently, he is working on IGC 2020, which will start soon.
