On Saturday (13/08), Hakken Ryou, the world-renowned cosplayer, had a meet-and-greet session at Mall Taman Anggrek, Jakarta, as part of the release of the MMORPG, at Tower of Fantasy Game Festival 2022. Hakken is known for her cosplay works of several male characters from numerous anime, manga, and video games. With her charm, she is even considered by many of her fans as 'the real male anime character’.

2. Career Journey
Hakken is known to have made her debut in the cosplay world in 2010 as a makeup artist, photographer, and costume maker. She made her cosplay debut at 12 years old after seeing Naruto, she even admitted that she’s well-versed in making her look like Naruto characters, especially Itachi. "What piqued my interest to dabble in cosplay was Naruto. One day, I searched for tutorial videos about it on YouTube, and started learning how to do the makeup and make the props,” Hakken Ryou said in an interview, quoted from Nippon Club on Sunday, 14 August 2022.
3. Hakken’s Rise in Popularity
In 2017, on 4 April to be more exact, Hakken posted her cosplay work as a Mystic Messenger character, Jumin Han, on her Instagram. This boosted her popularity on social media, racking up 3.6 million followers on Instagram. Her popularity keeps on rising among anime and video game enthusiasts as she cosplays other characters. From Naruto, Jujutsu Kaisen, Haikyuu, and Attack on Titan, she always put hard work into her cosplays. So, it’s not surprising that this cosplayer has a massive following.

4. Her Real Face is Still a Mystery
Since Hakken is a cosplayer who’s an expert when it comes to makeup and photography, we’ve only seen her identity as Hakken Ryou. To this day, she’s yet to show her real face and identity on social media. This remains a mystery that keeps fans curious about her real looks.
5. Her Cosplay Role Model
Despite already being a big name in the community, Hakken also has her own cosplay role model, who’s a cosplayer named LALAax from China. “I think that he always gives his best when doing his cosplays and gets into his characters really well. That’s why I think he’s the biggest source of inspiration for my cosplays,” said Hakken Ryou.
6. Her Reason for Cosplaying Male Characters
Hakken Ryou is widely known for her “pretty guy” looks in male-character cosplays. She chose to cosplay as Neji Hyuga, Itachi, Yoo Seung Ho, Jumin Han, Zhongli, Gojo, to Howl with a reason. She prefers male characters as, personality-wise, these characters reflect her better. Hakken revealed that her most memorable cosplay work is when she cosplayed Howl from Ghibli’s Howl's Moving Castle.
7. A Massive K-Pop Fan
Although she’s known for her male-character cosplays, Hakken is actually a fan of the South Korean boyband ATEEZ. Just like most K-pop fans, Hakken also has a bias, which is San. She once attended an ATEEZ concert along with a fellow cosplayer, Knite.
