Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon W5+ and W5 Platform for Wearables

Snapdragon W5+ and W5 are the latest platforms from Qualcomm that are present for a number of wearables.

Today, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. announced the latest additions to its suite of premium wearable platforms, Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon W5 Gen 1. These platforms are designed to enhance and deliver breakthrough performance for the next generation of connected wearables with ultra-low power consumption focused on longer battery life, premium user experience, and sleek and innovative design. Using this platform, manufacturers can scale, differentiate and develop products faster in the ever-growing and segmented wearables industry.

New enhancements to the flagship Snapdragon W5+ platform offer 50% lower power consumption, 2X higher performance, 2X richer features, and 30% smaller size than the previous generation, enabling manufacturers to provide consumers with a different experience for wearables. Built on a hybrid architecture, this purpose-built platform consists of a highly integrated 4nm system-on-chip and 22nm always-on supporting processor. This technology combines a range of platform innovations including Bluetooth 5.3 architecture with ultra-low power consumption, low power islands for Wi-Fi, GNSS, and audio, and low power states such as Deep Sleep and Hibernate.

"We are excited to be working with OEMs and partners who are expanding our rapidly growing wearable ecosystem, and are pleased to announce 25 designs across segments using this new platform. Over the past year, we have collaborated extensively with our first OEM, OPPO, and Mobvoi, and waiting for their products to arrive," said Kedia.

"The announcement of the new Snapdragon W5 wearable platform will take smart wearable technology to a new level," said Franco Li, OPPO Associate Vice President, President of IoT Business.

"OPPO and Qualcomm Technologies have been collaborating for a long time, together to enable new product innovations. The OPPO Watch 3 series will be launched in August. As the first smartwatch to be powered by the Snapdragon W5 wearable platform, it will provide a user experience best with better performance," he added.

"Mobvoi has collaborated with Qualcomm Technologies in recent years to launch a series of TicWatch smartwatches using the Snapdragon Wear platform," said Zhifei Li, CEO, Mobvoi.

"Our team is excited about the different features in the new Snapdragon W5+ Wearable Platform and have worked closely with the Qualcomm Technologies team to bring innovation to the next generation of TicWatch flagship smartwatches. Qualcomm Technologies also announced two reference designs from Compal and Pegatron, demonstrating the capabilities of our platform and collaboration with our ecosystem partners to help OEMs develop products faster.
