Should RE4 Remake Become a Thing?

Should Capcom really release RE4 Remake?

After the success of Resident Evil 2 Remake, Capcom seemed to become more determined to remake their older games, starting from the Resident Evil 3 Remake which unfortunately garnered poor reception to the latest and hottest rumor of the fabled Resident Evil 4 Remake that’s still around the air even after the release of Resident Evil Village.

Although the idea of remaking Resident Evil 4 (RE4) is welcomed by fans, it also raises a huge question: Should RE4 remake become a thing in the first place? After all, the term ‘remake’ exists to improve the quality of the original games. For RE2 or RE3, it was clear that both games came out from an old console with old-school gameplay, hence Capcom remade them to improve their graphics and adapt a new gameplay to them. As for the RE4 Remake?

Personally, RE4 is already good as it is and it doesn’t need a remake. While its PS2-era graphics may  be outdated, the game has received a lot of ports or remasters even for PC and PS4, which means the graphics themselves have been improved and smoothed to become a significant RE4 HD Remaster. Besides, the graphics still age like fine wine and can keep up with the newer PS5 or even PC games.

As for the gameplay, it’s hard to dismiss RE4’s reputation as the pioneer of Over the Shoulder (OTS) POV third-person shooter which inspires future titles like Batman Arkham, Dead Space and Uncharted among others. This OTS POV is also implemented in RE2 and RE3 remakes which play very well.

Honestly, RE4’s gameplay doesn’t need some massive fixes except for its ‘tank control’ scheme, of which Capcom probably should change by adding a feature that allows the players to shoot while moving. But by doing so, it may run the risk of losing the horror factor of the game itself, because clunky control is one of the reasons RE4 has a strong sense of dread and horror that fit with its intended purpose as an action horror game, especially if you encounter a Regenerador (lol).

Say that RE4 Remake is going to adapt the first person perspective like REVII or RE Village, it sure is going to cause some controversies because some fans (including the writer) don't like FPS in an RE game. Don’t be mistaken though, both REVII and RE Village are amazing on their own, but personally a third person perspective gameplay with over the shoulder camera view is still a godsend combination.

Therefore, RE4 Remake doesn’t need to be a thing. In fact, it would be better for Capcom to remake other older games instead like RE: Code Veronica or a personal favorite, RE: Outbreak. Or maybe Dino Crisis: Remake should be a thing instead?

How about your favorite older games which Capcom should remake, should they remake them? And of course, do you think RE4 Remake should be a thing? Let us know in the comment section below!
