The Marvel Cinematic Universe or MCU has entered its fifth phase with the release of the film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Marvel Studios has selected what is arguably its most peripheral sub-franchise to officially debut Kang, the MCU's next major villain with an overarching storyline. Are you curious about Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which opens MCU Phase 5? Here is a review of the movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania!

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Review

Presents a Greater Conflict Than Previous Ant-Man Films

The two previous Ant-Man films had told smaller, localized stories, in what was essentially a comedic heist thriller set in San Francisco, with various hints about a larger mystery lurking in the subatomic universe known as Quantum Realm. To be honest, the previous 2 Ant-Man films are films that can be watched as a refreshing break from other MCU film narratives that usually present conflicts that threaten the safety of the world.

All the relaxed concepts of the previous 2 Ant-Man films are different from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the third entry in the Ant-Man series and the first film to kick off the MCU's fifth phase. Not only does director Peyton Reed's film take place almost exclusively in the Quantum Realm exploring it far more extensively than in previous films, but it also pits Scott Lang / Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and friends against Marvel's next big threat, namely Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), a power-crazed villain who can move through all time and space.

The concept that made the previous Ant-Man films so captivating in their own way is still present in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This is exemplified by Lang and the characters who are often referred to as the Ant Family. They are Scott Lang's daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton), Scott Lang's lover and crime-fighting partner Hope Van Dyne/the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), and Hope's parents, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer).

Introducing the Evil Version of Kang, who will be the Next Major Villain of the MCU

After the defeat of Thanos, it is as if the MCU has lost a powerful main villain who is challenging to beat to become the motivation for the next series of MCU films and series. However, all of that was replaced in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania with the emergence of Kang, along with the skill of the actor, Jonathan Majors, who immediately proved that Marvel's steady casting is one of their studio's strongest assets.

Majors is a stunner every time he appears on screen, and his role as Kang, previously presented as a much friendlier variant and also played by Majors at the end of the first season of Loki, in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Kang is more complicated, secretly evil, and imbued with a terrifying power. Kang's motivations and sinister plans seem to dwarf Thanos' predecessor as the main villain of the MCU, and Kang's ability to move across space and time makes him almost god-like in his immense ambition, genius and resources.

Featuring an Impressive Atmosphere and Storyline Like a Star Wars Movie

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania also features a cameo from Ghostbusters actor Bill Murray who really doesn't exist except to make the legendary comedian a part of Marvel's films. There's also the arrival of the long-awaited character MODOK, a villain with a twist that also provides some of the funniest moments from the film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

There are some visually stunning sci-fi set pieces in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which also features a central Empire vs Resistance drama that has drawn comparisons to the space opera film Star Wars. While many people may not be familiar with this unconventional Ant-Man film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a breakthrough in the series that is worth watching as it opens the MCU Phase 5.

That’s the review of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the opening film of MCU Phase 5. In your opinion, who is your favorite character to appear in the film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania? You can share them in the comments.
