Everyone knows Zack Snyder, who has many works related to superheroes, especially DC. After the short vacuum on works related to zombies, Snyder returned to present his latest work that presents an intense storyline and is said to be an exciting film about zombies titled Army of the Dead.

Zack Snyder had created a zombie film in 2004 titled Dawn of the Dead. It’s unknown whether Army of the Dead is connected to Dawn of the Dead. But zombie movie fans are hoping that there is a connection.

Usually, zombie movies have an intense plot, but Army of The Dead is quite different and a very fun film to watch even for non-zombie film fans. Let’s take a look at the review of the latest Zack Snyder, Army of the Dead

Army of The Dead Synopsis, An Ambition to Rob a Zombie Nest

Army of The Dead tells the story of a group of zombie exterminators who have a fairly difficult task or can also be called a suicide mission. Scott Ward, played by Dave Bautista, was given the important task of forming a team to carry out the robbery of a casino safe by Bly Tanaka. Inside the safe, there are hundreds of millions of dollars in cash that you could say at that time was a difficult time after the zombie invasion hit Las Vegas.

Having experience rescuing the minister of defense, Scott is expected to be the right person to complete this mission, which involves several of his old teams and recruits some new people to take part in this mission. After gathering several people who fit the bill for this mission, Scott also asked for help from his own son Kate who has long been a volunteer at the Las Vegas border.

The members of the team which include Scott's own friends are Maria Cruz, Vanderohe, and helicopter pilot Peters, plus a key expert named Dieter, as well as additional troops who are crazy to kill zombies and put them on YouTube page. Lily's character "The Coyote" is also present as a guide to enter Las Vegas illegally. Of course, these troops were very ready to carry out a robbery that would be successful if there was no obstacle or betrayal.

Continuing the story, there was a conflict where Kate joined to save her friend and forced her to join the robbery team so that her father could not refuse it. In the initial phase, it looks very smooth and there are no problems, it is shown that there must be a barter system between Zeus (the zombie leader) and also anyone who wants to enter Las Vegas. Then enter the casino building and the safe opener manages to break into the safe perfectly.

Unfortunately, the story just started here, one of the team members who became Tanaka's right-hand man betrayed has another goal besides money, namely beheading the zombie queen to create a zombie army for the government that became a biological weapon. Then Zeus went on a rampage. At the end of the story, Zeus managed to kill the members of the team and only one survived, Kate, the son of Scott Ward. Of course, this is a futile mission considering that it was almost successful but there was one team member who had defected.

Army of The Dead Storyline, Cliche Yet Remain Intriguing

Unfortunately, Zack Snyder presents a storyline that is somewhat cliché in Army of The Dead. Where the audience knows what to expect and weren’t surprised by the betrayal. A little guessing game but the results remain the same. Tanaka's men joined the team to betray them after getting the head of the zombie queen, even though the contents of the bag had been replaced by Lily, but in the end, Tanaka's men died tragically by the Albino Tiger Zombie.

There is also a plot twist that is arguably not too surprising and changes the storyline, starting from the disclosure of Tanaka's other goals to the nuclear launch by the US government to eradicate the zombie plague advanced from one day to just one hour. At the end of the story, there is still one member who is still alive named Vanderohe who hides in a safe and carries a large amount of cash, but unfortunately, there is a bite on the waist but strangely Vanderohe himself did not immediately mutate into a zombie.

Snyder may use this to keep Army of The Dead alive and make the next sequel. Given that Vanderohe went to Mexico City where the population is very dense, more than Las Vegas. Surely this is a breath of fresh air for Zack Snyder's zombie movie fans to look forward to the latest sequel from Army of The Dead.

The Zombie’s Perspective in Army of The Dead

Still carrying and not eliminating the slow and non-threatening zombie element, Zack Snyder himself made several zombie tiers that are very common in every zombie film. The first tier is a limping zombie, which is a zombie with the lowest ability because it can't chase or run and is not a serious threat.

Continuing to the second tier is Alpha, where these zombies have extraordinary fighting abilities and can avoid bullets so they don't hit their brains. In addition, the attacks carried out by Alpha are somewhat tactical and controlled by their leader. Of course, this is a nightmare for the members of the robbery mission. Then there are animal zombies, in the Army of The Dead a horse and an albino tiger appear, which obey the command of Zeus, the leader.

The top tier is held by Zeus as the leader, with intelligence above average, Zeus creates headgear to ward off bullets that target his brain. Unfortunately, the baby that is conceived by the zombie queen must die, if kept alive, there will be a new zombie species that has never been in any other zombie film.

Army of The Dead Verdict, Not Spectacular But QUite Good

Apart from having a directorial role, Zack Snyder is also the cinematographer of Army of The Dead which presents a very stunning post-apocalyptic scene and becomes an interesting dish for zombie movie lovers. Unfortunately, the predictable storyline makes this film less exciting when compared to World War Z which has a more interesting storyline.

However, Army of The Dead itself is very worth watching and also makes you curious about the next sequel that will definitely be presented considering how the story goes. There is no need to question the quality of the visual effect, Zack Snyder successfully brings a sadistic effect but looks really cool.
