The demand for a controller to play games is rising. So brands and competing to create a controller to meet the demand. But not all gamepads can answer what gamers want. That’s why GameSir released a new controller to meet the demand.

Recently GameSir released a new gamepad called GameSir G4 Pro. The new gamepad from the Chinese company is different from the previous generation, where it has a ton of features that makes it better and several usage schemes.

GameSir released GameSir G4s back in 2017. Now, GameSir presents the fifth generation of the G4 controller with a “Pro” label.

Fortunately, the writer got the opportunity to review GameSir G4 Pro from GameSir Indonesia. After using the controller for 2 weeks, here's the review from the writer.

Unboxing 

The first impression after looking at the box of GameSir G4 Pro is different. Because the previous boxes for GameSir controllers are blue. But it seems like GameSir changed the color theme for the box into red, starting with the box of GameSir X2 Type-C that was released first

You also open the box of GameSir G4 Pro differently, where you open it by pushing it up or down. In the box, you will find a GameSir G4 Pro controller secured and safe from shaking, USB Type-C cable, an additional holder, a manual book, a card from the CEO of GameSir, a warranty card, and GameSir Sticker. Overall, the box and everything inside left a premium impression.

All Black Design

Design-wise, GameSir G4 Pro is similar to GameSir G4s that was released before. The design is akin to the Xbox One controller so it’s comfortable and has great ergonomics.

However, unlike G4s, G4 Pro is predominantly black. There are two black versions used on the controller, black doff and glossy black. The combination of both colors makes the G4 Pro controller look cool under the light.

There’s a “GAMESIR” with red coloring  and a transparent button with the GameSir logo. Also, every button on the controller is black, adding the coolness of this controller.

The ABXY buttons on the GameSir G4 Pro looks brighter than the previous generation so it's more visible in a darker room. Excitingly, the ABXY buttons are magnetic so you can adjust them. Sadly, with the magnetic feature, the ABXY buttons are not backlit. The grip is layered with an anti-slip rubber, so the controller won’t slip out of your hand when your hands are sweaty.

At the front, you will find a USB Type-C port that makes the controller look modern. The L1R1 and L2R2 buttons are layered with a metallic material to give a cold impression when pressed. Thanks to the layering, the L1R1 and L2R2 buttons are more durable against sweat and corrosion. The feedback is soft and solid.

As a multiplatform controller, GameSir G4 Pro comes with a bracket in the middle of the controller. The bracket serves as a place to place your smartphone and play mobile games. Answering the complaints from GameSir G4s, G4 Pro comes with an additional bracket with a better grip.

At the back, you will find a reset button and information about GamSir G4Pro. So new users will know which button to press on every usage scenario.

Helpful Multiplatform Feature

If you are looking for a device that can be used on many devices, then GameSir G4 Pro is the answer. GameSir G4 Pro comes with many features that can be used in various usage scenarios. The controller can be connected to Android, iOS, PC, even a Nintendo Switch. 

GameSir G4 Pro also has various connectivities. From Bluetooth, USB Type-C cable, and a 2,4Ghz receiver.with the complete connectivity, GameSir G4 Pro is a reliable controller for many scenarios.

To improve your experience even more, GameSir G4 Pro comes with an Asymmetric Motor feature that will vibrate when gaming. The motors are located on the sides for an excellent vibration when gaming.

GamSir also adds Turbo Key and Screenshot Key for accessibility for gamers. The Turbo Key improves the trigger button when playing shooter games. While the Screenshot Key can take in-game pictures in one touch.

Like other GameSir controllers, G4 Pro comes with a supporting app called GameSir World that can be downloaded via Play Store or App Store. With the app, the user will get mobile game recommendations, adjust the controller setting, and update the controller software.

For iOS users, GameSir also supports Apple Arcade and MFI Games.

Battery Capacity

The battery capacity of GameSir G4 Pro is 800 mAh. It’s not too big, but it’s enough to support the usage. The battery capacity is indicated via 4 LEDs, meaning 1 led represents 25% of the battery.

The writer tested the GameSir G4 Pro on many usage scenarios, from playing PPSSPP emulator and gaming on a laptop. GameSir G4 Pro can last for up to 4 to 5 hours from a full battery. 

Verdict

Overall, GameSir G4 Pro is really interesting if you are a multiplatform controller. Nintendo Switch users usually look for this controller as an alternative to Joy-Con. Not to mention the controller can be used on other platforms such as Android and iOS devices and PC.

Unlike the previous generation, G4 Pro doesn't have backlit ABXY buttons but is replaced with magnetic buttons so you can customize them. Material-wise, GameSir G4 Pro used a plastic material combined with doff and glossy coloring to make the controller look awesome. No to mention the L1R1 and L2R2 buttons are layered with a metallic material to make the buttons feel more premium.

There’s no complaint about the connectivity, everything works well according to the usage scenario. The battery life is good enough so you can use it for gaming for hours.
