[REVIEW] Hecate GX05

1. Unboxing Hecate GX05

We did not expect that when we opened the Hecate GX05 box, it would be a unique experience in itself. The outer packaging is solid and has red accents on the box lock. When opened, you will be presented with the GX05 displayed in a real gaming case and protected by dense foam. The premium impression is very solid.

The Hecate GX05 packaging consists of:

• A TWS Hecate GX05, with an RGB metallic case and a pair of buds;
• A USB-C wireless 2,4 GHz dongle;
• 3 (three) pairs of ear tips: L, M, and S (the M size is already attached to the TWS by default);
• A pouch;
• A USB A to C converter;
• A USB A to C cable;
• 2 (two) pairs of dust protectors;
• A manual book and safety hazard book;
• A sticker and a Hecate card.

2. The Futuristic Design of Hecate GX05

The Hecate GX05 has a case design that is very different from other TWSes. This TWS case is made from zinc alloy material so it feels heavy and is covered in glossy silver. The case “cover” has to be rotated to take out the buds and dongle. There are RGB lights on each side of the GX05 case which can be changed in color and mode, as well as being an indicator of the case's battery status.

Like most TWSes, this case cover has an active mechanism which means that when opened, the buds will immediately be in pairing mode and ready to connect with your gadget. When closed and the buds are in the case, the buds will automatically turn off. The closing hinge is sturdy and makes a clicking sound when rotated.

Apart from that, there are also writings indicating the sides of the buds L and R, as well as several brand writings and slogans for aesthetics. On the side, there is an Open indicator for turning the case lid and a USB C slot. On the bottom side, there is an RGB settings button as well as model and electrical information.

Inside the case, there is a pair of buds and a 2.4 GHz wireless dongle. The design of the buds themselves is simple but premium with a glossy silver color and light accents using an RGB base that reflects the gaming identity of this TWS.

The housing of the buds is snail-shaped with two metal materials on the outside and plastic on the inside. The nozzle is short so it doesn't penetrate the ear canal too deeply and has a filter grill. Then, there is a metal plate for charging as well as L and R markers.

At the top and bottom, there is a microphone hole which is equipped with an Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) feature. This feature minimizes external sounds entering the microphone other than conversational sounds.

The 2.4 GHz wireless dongle uses a USB-C plug, added with the words 'flash speed', and a light indicator.

3. The Excellent Experience of Buds Usage

GX05 is a type of In-Ear Monitor (IEM) bud that fits into the ear canal. There are also 3 pairs of ear tip sizes available: L, M, and S which can be adjusted to suit your comfort.

According to us, the comfort of the GX05 buds is quite good, like TWS in general, the standard silica ear tips. The first time you use it, it may feel a bit hard, but after a while, you will feel comfortable. However, when worn for too long, your ears will feel hot. It's best not to use it for too long.

The seal and tightness are all alright. External sound still leaks, but this is typical of IEMs without ANC in general. The GX05 Buds are quite heavy because the housing is made of metal.

4. Complete Hecate GX05 Connectivity Options Followed with 15ms Ultra-low Latency!

Hecate GX05 has 2 types of connectivity options, namely Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz wireless. Both are equally easy and seamless to pair.

Especially for 2.4 GHz wireless, plug the dongle into your gadget first and the buds pair instantly. The advantage of this connectivity is that the latency is very small, only 15 ms. This means that the sound output from the gadget to being heard on TWS only takes 0.015 seconds! With such a small latency, you don't feel any delay at all when you move the character in the game with the sound produced.

5. With a Different Mode, Comes with a Different Type and Quality of the Sound Produced

The Hecate GX05 TWS has 2 types of sound modes installed, namely Music Mode and Gaming Mode. You can access it by tapping 3 times on the right bud. What are the types and qualities of sound in both modes? Check out the details below!

• Music Mode: The sound type of the GX05 is classified as a V-shape type. The bass section feels thick and wide but doesn't spill over into the mids, it's punchy and has a strong impact. In the mids, it feels more backward, but the vocals are still clearly maintained. For the high or treble part, it can be open and detailed, it's quite airy and doesn't pierce.
• Gaming Mode: Gaming Mode's sound type changes completely from Music Mode. The sound quality is warm. The bass feels wider and boomier, so the mids become tighter. The high part becomes more laid-back, polite, and smooth.

For technical sound, the GX05 has a wide soundstage, good sound separation, good 3D imaging, and small sound details that can also be heard well. For example, when playing PUBGM, you can hear the sound of gunfire from far away at 2 o'clock and the sound of cars approaching from 8 o'clock. Likewise, the sound of your character's footsteps and looting actions can be felt all over your body.

6. Listening to PUBG Mobile In-Game Sounds Never Feel So Good!

The author tried the Hecate GX05 by playing PUBG Mobile using a 2.4 GHz wireless dongle. The results are very satisfying!

The first thing that is immediately noticed is that the delay between the character's movements and the sound produced is very small, and it feels like there is no delay at all. The playing experience becomes more comfortable without any obstacles.

Thanks to the good and detailed technical sound, we can feel various movements around the characters. The author can also know the location of friends and enemies, like guessing whether they are moving away or approaching, moving from point A to B, and so on.

Combined with ultra-low latency with clear sound details, playing PUBG Mobile becomes more responsive and exciting.

7. Downsides of Hecate GX05

The Hecate GX05 is equipped with very capable special gaming features, but it is still not free from shortcomings.

• The Hecate GX05 does not have Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) so you can still hear outside sounds even though the ear tip seal is quite tight.
• There are no applications that support the Hecate GX05 yet. Operating this TWS is quite simple and everything is explained in the manual. However, it would be better if we could adjust the GX05's settings in the application so that customization is easier.

8. Verdict

The Hecate GX05 offers more than just a regular gaming TWS. With a premium futuristic design and features that support gamers, this TWS also displays stunning sound quality.

Hecate GX05's ability to produce small latency is an extra value that can provide a more responsive gaming experience.

However, it cannot be separated from its downsides, especially the lack of applications that support the Hecate GX05 for further customization.
