At the beginning of 2022, Lenovo officially introduced two series of gaming laptops in Indonesia, namely the Legion 7 Slim and the IdeaPad Gaming 3. Both of these laptop series have used AMD Ryzen processors and NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards. In addition to the superior specifications, the Legion 7 Slim series also boasts a thin and light design. So this laptop can really answer the needs of those of you who are looking for a minimalist design laptop but has powerful performance.
Incidentally the author got the opportunity from Lenovo Indonesia to review the Lenovo Legion 7 Slim AMD (S7 15ACH6) series for two weeks. After a few days of use, here is the author's review of one of the high-end gaming laptops from the Legion series that might be your choice for productivity.
Let’s see the full review here:
Thin and Minimalist Design
As a laptop that uses the word "Slim", this laptop actually has a fairly thin profile appearance for devices in its class. This gaming laptop has the thinnest side up to 1.59 cm and the thickest side only 1.89 cm. As for the dimensions, the Legion 7 Slim has a length of 35.6 cm and a width of 25.2 cm.
Even the design to the material used in the Legion 7 Slim is also very good and of good quality. For those of you who like laptops that look calm, maybe you can choose this one gaming laptop. Because the Legion 7 Slim comes with a plain black without a lot of crowded RGB lights.
In addition to its thin body, the weight of the Legion 7 Slim is only around 1.92 Kg, making this gaming laptop a lightweight gaming laptop. Because the average gaming laptop usually weighs over 2 Kg. As for the charger, it weighs 661 grams, so if you add it up to put it in a bag, it weighs around 2.58 kg.
A Mesmerizing Screen
The Legion 7 Slim uses an IPS screen panel with a size of 15.6 inches, WQHD resolution (2560 x 1440p), and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The screen on this laptop is also very bright because it has a brightness level of up to 300 nits and a color gamut of up to 100% sRGB. Interestingly, this gaming laptop screen also supports a 165 Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, Free-Sync and G-Sync with an anti-glare screen surface.
The Legion 7 Slim screen is also very thin on all four sides, even on the top side it is still relatively thin even though there is a webcam camera with a resolution of 720p 30fps. The webcam camera has also been equipped with a privacy shutter that provides security for users.
Another advantage of the Legion 7 Slim screen is the hinge that can be opened up to 180 degrees. This certainly makes it easier for users to show what is on the screen to the other person.
Keyboard
Legion 7 Slim comes with a keyboard profile called Legion TrueStrike. Where this keyboard is claimed by Lenovo to have soft-landing switches that can increase comfort when used. In addition, this keyboard section also supports N-Ky Rollover technology and 100% Anti-Ghosting. Each keyboard key has a key travel of up to 1.3 mm, thus minimizing typos when typing. Even the Legion 7 Slim keyboard is also equipped with Numpad keys and normal-sized arrow keys.
As a gaming laptop, the Legion 7 Slim keyboard is also equipped with a per-key RGB that can be adjusted by pressing the "fn and spacebar" keys. Meanwhile, to adjust the brightness level, users can press the "fn and up/down arrow" keys, with three brightness levels. Users can also adjust the backlit keyboard of this gaming laptop by using additional software, namely Corsair iCUE.
Great Audio
When it comes to audio, the Legion 7 Slim comes with 2W stereo speakers by Harman with Smart AMP. Where the two speakers are located at the bottom right and left of the laptop. In addition, Lenovo has also provided a special software called Nahimic Audio which is useful for changing Audio Profile.
With these technologies and features, Legion 7 Slim's audio performance is very reliable for playing games or listening to multimedia files.
I/O Port
Turning to the ports, Legion 7 Slim has a fairly complete connector port that can be relied on for use with high mobility. On the left side, you will find a 3.5mm Audio Jack Combo and an SD Card Reader.
On the right side, there are two USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 which supports data transfer and 100 Watt Power Delivery and a Display output with the DisplayPort 1.4 protocol.
Towards the back, there is a USB 3.2 Gen 2, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 that supports the Always ON feature, and a DC-IN 1.
As for wireless connectivity, the Legion 7 Slim comes with Wi-Fi 6 AX1650 11ax, 2x2 and Bluetooth 5.1.
Bigger Touchpad
Now the touchpad on the Legion 7 Slim is bigger than the previous generation. Even the touchpad position is in the center to spacebar position which can minimize the touch of the palm of the hand when typing. The color of the touchpad is also compatible with the body and also supports the Windows Precision Driver feature.
New Cooling System
Legion 7 Slim also carries a new cooling system called Legion Coldfront 3.0. Where this technology uses four heatpipes with two fans whose job is to cool the CPU, GPU, VRM, and VRAM parts of this gaming laptop. For air circulation, Legion 7 Slim has intakes from the bottom and top, with four exhaust holes on the back and right and left sides.
Specification
The Lenovo Legion 7 Slim AMD (S7 15ACH6) that the author reviewed comes powered by an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processor combined with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6 GB GDDR6. This AMD processor carries the Zen 3 Cezanne architecture with 7 nm fabrication technology. It has 8 cores and 16 threads with a default TDP of 45W.
The CPU and GPU are also combined with 32 GB DDR4-3200 dual channel memory, 16 GB On-Board and plus 1 16 GB SODIMMM chip. With a capacity that is large enough, of course, you no longer need to upgrade the memory of this gaming laptop.
As for storage media, this laptop uses a M.2 NVMe PCIe 3 x4 SSD with a capacity of 2 TB. Fun, this SSD has also been equipped with a heatsing and thermal pad that can maintain the SSD's temperature when it is in use. If you feel that the capacity is not enough, then you can also add it to an additional M.2 SSD slot provided. However, for this additional slot there is no heatsink or thermal pad.

Performance Test
With these specifications, the author also tried the Legion 7 Slim to undergo a series of trials, ranging from benchmarks to heavy game use. Here are the benchmark details that the author has done on the Legion 7 Slim:
3D Mark
Cinebench
Shadow of the Tomb Raider (Ultra) Performance Mode
Horizon Zero Dawn (Ultra) Performance Mode
CrystalDiskMark 8.0
Power Consumption When Idle
Power Consumption When Running Horizon Zero Dawn Benchmark
Battery Life
For battery life, Legion 7 Slim is equipped with a 71 Wh battery capacity which is also accompanied by Balance Mode technology. For battery use, this gaming laptop can be used for up to 3 to 4 hours of browsing and opening YouTube with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and a screen brightness of 50%. Unfortunately, playing light games only lasts approximately 2 hours, so for maximum performance it is recommended to use an adapter.
Gaming Test
When the author tries to play the game, Legion 7 Slim performs well in several competitive games and AAA class games. When playing Counter Strike: Global Offensive, this laptop is able to show the ability of a 165 Hz screen that runs stably between 112 Hz to 130 Hz with High graphics settings. For Dota 2, the frame-rates per second (fps) that are served are almost the same, it's just that it will feel lower when you're war or ganking, although not too significant.
Meanwhile, when the author plays Grand Theft Auto V, the resulting fps can reach between 80 to 120 fps on Ultra settings with 1080p resolution. When the author tries to maximize the performance of the Legion 7 Slim, it produces a fairly loud fan sound. This is natural because the fan dissipates heat when providing maximum performance.
Verdict
By using the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processor combined with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6 GB GDDR6, the Lenovo Legion 7 Slim AMD (S7 15ACH6) delivers extraordinary computing, gaming, and work performance. The increase in performance and features presented compared to its predecessor version is quite significant. After introducing early 2022, Lenovo has finally introduced an innovation to the next level for the best mobile computing experience through a thin laptop with a powerful performance.
When I tried it for almost two weeks, Legion 7 Slim was very reliable in all uses. Starting from running AAA class games, to being a loyal friend for Blender typing and rendering purposes. All that performance can be obtained when using this gaming laptop, so that the author is not glued to the desktop PC.
In addition to reliable performance, there are several interesting points in the Legion 7 Slim. Starting from a minimalist design, a fairly light weight, to an abundant purchase bonus. You can redeem the Lenovo Legion 7 Slim AMD (S7 15ACH6) that the author is reviewing at a price of around Rp. 27,199,000 in e-commerce services.
