Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal Plot, Arrival of Dead Moon Circus That Threatens Earth

Because the plot of Netflix’s Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal is an adaptation of the author Naoko Takeuchi’s Dream Arc chapter in her Sailor Moon manga, this movie is canon in the Sailor Moon universe.

After returning to the 20th century, the story begins in the 90s as Chibiusa, who arrives from the future, starts to live with Usagi and Mamoru as a family. During a particular eclipse, Usagi and her friends are looking forward to the phenomenon but instead witness the appearance of the flying pegasus, Helios. Not only are the three people the only ones who can see Helios, but the horse also warns them of an upcoming threat.

True to Helios’ words, the total eclipse phenomenon marks the arrival of the Dead Moon Circus group who spread nightmares across the world. Additionally, Mamoru caught a bizarre illness which weakens him, rendering him unable to become the Masked Tuxedo. And worse, Usagi and Chibiusa swap bodies as Usagi turns into a child and Chibiusa becomes an adult.

The Dead Moon Circus group, led by Queen Nehelenia with her four Amazon Quartet, spread terror by mutating their circus pet tiger, eagle and fish to disrupt the Sailor Guardians, including Ami Mizuno the Sailor Mercury who’s currently broken home after her parents separate due to their differences in their ideology and career background, as her father is an artist and her mother is a doctor who has found a new significant other.

Alone in her room, the depressed Ami suddenly encounters the Dead Moon Circus’ fish creature that appears from her mirror. Because they both share the same water element, the fish creature is confident in defeating Ami. Will Ami be able to defeat the creature and move on from her depression?

Enemies in the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal movie attack each member of Sailor Guardian psychologically. Aside from Ami, Makoto the Sailor Jupiter also encounters the Dead Moon Circus’ eagle creature as the latter disguise as an owner of a fraud herb shop when Makoto is dreaming of having her own shop.

Makoto, who takes interest in the herb shop, receives some advice from the shop owner about how to expand her future business and become a successful entrepreneur. The creature also gives Makoto a ring which she immediately wears, but it turns out to be a cursed item that generates evil aura and nightmares to her. Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal’s Storyline, Two-Part Movie About the Return of Sailor Guardians

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal anime movie consists of two parts with each part running for one hour and 20 minutes, a similar format to the previous Sailor Moon movie called Sailor Moon SuperS.

The first part of the movie depicts the arrival of the Dead Moon Circus which immediately becomes a new threat to the Earth. Then, Mamoru caught illness and became unable to assist Usagi and Chibiusa to fight the Dead Moon Circus. Other Sailor Guardians also struggle to fight the enemies, but fortunately there are reinforcements in the form of Helios the flying pegasus who offers directions and can turn into a man as well as the magical talking cats Luna and Artemis who can turn into humans.

In addition to Ami and Makoto, Rei Hino the Sailor Mars who arrives at the circus area to investigate the opponents is trapped in a mirror house, a labyrinth and an illusory trap intentionally set up by the circus’ tiger creature.

Ai Minako the Sailor Venus also infiltrates a jungle-theme playground to rescue the children kidnapped by the Dead Moon Circus. Here, the four Amazon Quartet which consists of four evil girls with four different elements appear in order to fight the Sailor Guardians.

The second part of the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal movie begins with the story of Sailor Pluto, Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus who are taking care of baby Sailor Saturn. With the appearance of the Dead Moon Circus, baby Sailor Saturn grows up into an adult in a matter of days. The Sailor Guardians then regain their ability to transform after being unable to transform beforehand and head out to assist Usagi and the other Sailor Guardians to defeat the Dead Moon Circus and its leader Queen Nehelenia.
