Exactly on March 19, 2020, Riot Officially releases its latest Auto Battler game, Teamfight Tactics Mobile (TFT Mobile).

Fundamentally, the game is identical to Auto Chess and Chess Rush, but several elements make this game unique. What are they? Read the review below by Dunia Games.

Teamfight Tactics Mobile Interface and Tutorial

Teamfight Tactics Mobile doesn’t have a flashy interface, both the login and main page. It’s doesn’t take a long time to enter the login menu, since the game’s booting system is quick.

When you get into the login menu, you only have two choices -- login with Google account or Riot account. But to make things easier, it’s best if you log in with your Google account.

When you are logged in, you need to download a 500MB patch data. Later on, you can choose several servers. Since the Asia server is not yet registered, you can choose North America.

When you are in, you can follow the tutorial that will teach you about Teamfight Tactics Mobile features. Starting from Carousel that requires you to compete for a Champion (heroes are called in League of Legends) and how to equip items and combine them.

In the tutorial session, you will also learn how to combine elements to make it a synergy that will provide additional buffs such as attack speed armor, or lifesteal.

After you finish the tutorial, you are sent to the main page that shows several tabs. At the bottom right corner, you will see ‘Play’ that is used to find matches.

At the top right corner, you will find ‘Settings,’ Friends,’ Notification,’ and ‘Mission.’ at the top right corner, you will see your account’s avatar and name that are somehow can’t be clicked. So far, the in-game avatar is not yet changeable, unlike the Teamfight Tactics in PC. 

To see the modes in Teamfight Tactics Mobile, you can tap the button beside ‘Play.’ There are two modes available, Normal and Ranked -- the other being Tutorial.

Teamfight Tactics Mobile Gameplay

Now, for the gameplay, if you are familiar with League of Legends, you will not have a hard time learning the Champions in Teamfight Tactics. But what if you have no experience in League of Legends?

You will need some time to learn these Champions. Especially Teamfight Tactics Mobile’s battle board is hexagonal, meaning it will need a different strategy, unlike Auto Chess and Chess Rush.

You are forced to learn and understand all the pawns. You can’t implement the strategies of Auto CHess and CHess Rush to Teamfight Tactics.

For Synergy, Teamfight Tactics Mobile is unique. Teamfight Tactics Mobile’s synergy will change every time the game has a new theme. The current theme is Galaxy, and the next update may be Blood Moon.

Riot wants to make the game balanced for the players, so everyone has to learn the synergy composition. The pro is that the gameplay will not become stagnant, and the con is that players have to adjust to every new theme.

Item and Combination

For the items, Teamfight Tactics Mobile doesn’t have a specific recipe to make an item. You can combine all basic items into the main items. You can press and drag the items to see the effects so you won’t make a mistake when combining.

This method is easier for the players since you don’t need to memorize every recipe, like in Auto Chess. When you have equipped the item, you can’t unequip it, unless you sell the Champion.

Similar to other Auto Battler games, items will drop when you beat the monsters. But the monsters are not guaranteed to drop items, sometimes they will drop gold or Champions (random).

What Makes Teamfight Tactics Unique Compared to Other Auto Battler

Speaking of what makes Teamfight Tactics Mobile unique, the game’s meta will change when a new theme comes. The meta change is not with nerf or buff, but synergy.

Teamfight Tactics Mobile has a feature called Carousel, where you will compete with other players to look for the best Champion. The feature makes the game fairer.

Those with a low HP will get the first turn to pick a Champion. All Champions in the Carousel have an item, so you can also target the item -- not just the Champion.

Teamfight Tactics Mobile also has a cross-platform feature so you can play against PC players.

The Cons of Teamfight Tactics Mobile

Performance-wise, Teamfight Tactics Mobile is still lacking. You can’t change the graphic settings, so players will have the same visuals -- a bad thing for those with a potato phone.

The writer uses a phone with Snapdragon 636, and the game is still laggy. Not to mention during multitasking, the game often fails to open and shows a black screen.

The game is not available in Indonesia, but the Indonesian Play Store makes it seem like the game is playable.

Since the game is adapted from the PC version, the icons may look too small -- especially for the synergy icon. Hopefully, RIot will fix these problems soon.

Conclusion

Teamfight Tactics Mobile offers a new experience for an Auto Battler fame. But several things such as the graphics and the release region is something to be worked on.

But so far, Riot is able to grant what the community wants by making Teamfight Tactics for mobile in such short notice. Good Job!
