Rewilders: The Lost Spring, the New Project from Herobeat Studios
After the success of Endling: Extinction is Forever, winner of the 2022 BAFTA Game Award, Herobeat Studios is back with a brand-new title: Rewilders: The Lost Spring. The debut trailer showcases a vibrant world, creature collection, farming-sim mechanics, and action-packed exploration.
Story and Gameplay Premise
Players take on the role of Abi, a survivor searching for her family while restoring a planet devastated by toxic surfaces and the collapse of civilization. The main mission is to revive broken biomes while facing corrupted creatures shaped by environmental decay.
Hântu Creature Collecting System
A standout feature of the game is the Hântu creature system, where unique fauna of each biome return as Abi heals the land.
-
Hântu can fight alongside Abi in battles.
-
Each Hântu grants new abilities.
-
Players can feed, train, and build a customized team to match their playstyle.
Farming-Sim and Resource Management
Beyond combat, Rewilders: The Lost Spring integrates light farming-sim elements. At Abi’s Skyship base, players can:
-
Grow seeds and manage resources.
-
Unlock permanent buffs.
-
Strengthen Hântu for upcoming expeditions.
Each expedition offers randomized challenges, including loot, enemy spawns, and environmental hazards. While the game includes roguelite elements, Herobeat ensures that death and respawn mechanics are more forgiving than traditional roguelites.
Open World Exploration
The game features dynamic open-world traversal, with mechanics such as:
-
Gliders for soaring across landscapes.
-
Wall-running for agile movement.
-
Grappling hooks for fast mobility.
The story also presents moral choices: using Memory to restore the old world, or embracing Hatred to shape a new future.
Inspired by Studio Ghibli
Herobeat cites heavy inspiration from Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli films, reflected in the game’s themes of:
-
Ecological collapse and restoration.
-
The importance of family bonds.
-
Empowerment and hope.
