Game developer and publisher Riot Games announced Soul Fighter, a six-week adrenaline-pumping event that takes over the world of Runeterra with in-game content coming to League of Legends, League of Legends: Wild Rift, Teamfight Tactics, and Legends of Runeterra.

This event is Riot Games' tribute to the fighting game genre, drawing inspiration from the deeply emotional experiences and unique character moments from fighting game and anime tournament storylines, and will feature new game modes, skins, gameplay features, and much more in all four Riot Games' Runeterra games.

The event starts globally on Thursday, 20 July, and ends on Monday, 28 August 2023.

The parallel world that is the backdrop for this event will immerse players in a colorful and diverse world, where competitors compete to prove themselves through battles on the world's biggest stage, the Tournament of Souls.

This tournament is a competition hosted by the mysterious God's Eye, and warriors with extraordinary abilities fight until one victor remains.

"We are excited about the multiple experiences across the League of Legends ecosystem that make up this event," said Andrei van Roon, Head of League Studio.

"Arena, Soul Brawl, and Tag Duel will allow players to experience League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and Wild Rift in a new way that we think brings something truly fresh. We can't wait to see how players respond once they play it."

Players will experience all the action in this event in the following four titles.

League of Legends (Soul Fighter)

League of Legends, the world's most-played PC MOBA, introduces a new game mode, 12 new Soul Fighter skins, an in-client metagame experience, new champions, and more.

1. New Game Mode: Arena

Arena is a new game mode in League of Legends, in which four teams of two players each compete in rotating battle rounds. After each round of battle, they will grow stronger with unique augments until only one team remains.

Battles take place on four different battlefields, varying in size, terrain density, and theme. The Champions of this event world will occasionally appear as cameos in matches, which will either advantage or disadvantage the player.

2. Metagame Experience in Tournament of Souls (LoL Only)

Tournament of Souls is a rating style-focused combo battle that takes place within the client. Players will assume the role of Samira and earn a Reputation by playing League games, which will allow them to face new opponents and unlock new abilities for Samira to advance further in tournaments.

The goal of this tournament is to defeat the ten opposing champions to become the new champion. Players can claim rewards after each win and unlock the Story and Expert difficulty levels, each with a different level of challenge for players of all skill levels and time commitments.

Teamfight Tactics

The leading game in the auto-battler genre, welcomes an all-new game mode, along with a new Tactician, Champion Chibi, Event Pass, and the Mythic Tournament of Souls arena.

1. New Game Mode: Soul Brawl

Just like Fortune's Favor during the Lunar Gala earlier this year, Soul Brawl is a temporary game mode that arrived at Teamfight Tactics as part of this event.

This game mode takes place in two stages; the Training phase, where players compete for Soul Power that will strengthen their Soul Crown and provide additional loot options, and the Tournament phase, where players will be eliminated in a best-of-three bracket tournament.

2. Narrative Experience (TFT Only)

Besides game modes, there is also a narrative experience within the client: The Choncc Dome. Here, Champions and Tacticians work together to prepare for the Tournament of Souls. Choncc Dome marks the first time the TFT client experience has been brought to a mobile platform, and the first time an Event has an exclusive Pass+!

League of Legends: Wild Rift

Riot Games' MOBA, made especially for mobile, features six new skins, a narrative experience in its own client, and an all-new game mode designed specifically for Wild Rift.

1. New Game Mode: Tag Duel

Tag Duel is a new game mode that pits players against each other in one-on-one combat.

Each player will select three champions before entering battle, which can be swapped between them as long as they are not on cooldown, allowing for a wide variety of combos that were previously only possible with teammates. The first player to achieve four kills will emerge victorious.

2. Narrative Experience (WR Only) 

Players will experience an original story set in this event world, which is primarily told through the eyes of Draven and Yasuo as they fight in the Tournament of Souls and journey into the Lands Beyond.

Players will progress through the visual novel, which also features combat minigames that will test their speed and accuracy by playing Wild Rift matches.

By participating in this event, players will get prizes in the form of tokens that can be used for various items in the event store and open Arcade Mode. In Arcade Mode, players can play through a series of minigames as their favorite champion, get exclusive emotes, and much more.
