TFT Set 15 Could Change the Meta? Riot Testing New Prismatic Trait System
As we approach the launch of Set 15: KO Coliseum during the Tactician's Crown tournament on July 11–13, Riot Games has teased a major systemic shift coming to Teamfight Tactics (TFT). The focus this time? Prismatic Traits—a core mechanic that may soon be overhauled.
In the recent developer article titled Dev TFT: Cyber City Learnings, Riot reflected on the successes and issues of Set 14, while hinting at big changes coming in the next set. One of the most notable topics was an experiment aimed at changing how Prismatic Traits are activated—a feature that many believe has been overly reliant on luck.
In recent sets, players could often acquire two or three trait emblems simply through Prismatic options or random drops from Trainer Golems. This provided an immediate and sometimes game-defining power spike, often tipping the balance in favor of luck rather than long-term strategy.
However, starting with Set 15, Riot aims to reduce this reliance on RNG. A new formula for activating Prismatic Traits is currently in testing during early iterations of the set. Players will have the opportunity to try out the new system and provide feedback. If the community response is positive, Riot will implement the changes fully. If not, they may revert to the previous system.
This direction stems from community feedback and player experiences during Set 14. Riot’s goal is clear: create a more balanced and competitive environment where strategy takes precedence over randomness.
Although the dev blog was released a few days ago, the information remains highly relevant, especially with the Set 15 release around the corner. For competitive TFT players, understanding these upcoming changes is crucial to staying ahead of the meta from Day 1.
If implemented, the reworked Prismatic Trait system could mark the beginning of a major evolution in TFT—potentially changing playstyles and best comps altogether. So, if you haven’t caught up on this update yet, now’s the perfect time to get up to speed before KO Coliseum goes live.
