Building a positive esports community that values sportsmanship is not an easy task. RRQ, as one of the biggest esports with a goal of helping build the esports scene in the country since 2013, has always prioritized two-way communication to its supporters and fans in order to create a healthy esports community.

Unfortunately, the events that occured in the last three months have tarnished the positive spirit that RRQ and other stakeholders in the Indonesian esports scene have been trying to develop.

The numerous cases of esports teams, pro players, and even influencers’ Instagram account getting disabled have tarnished the sport. RRQ condemns these actions, which provoked the younger segment of esports fans.

Dark Campaign Harms Sportsmanship in Esports

Many people have linked the case of these disabled Instagram accounts with RRQ given its huge and solid fanbase, RRQ Kingdom. These actions not only harmed RRQ, but also the teams, players, and influencers who were the victims. RRQ condemned these actions and actually took the initiative to stop them.

Dealing with dark campaigns, RRQ tried to resolve them in accordance with the law. RRQ contacted the parties responsible for these actions to help the victims. Now, all of the victims’ Instagram accounts have been restored, including Nico Fernandes’, Eko Yulianto's, and Blacklist International's. The most recent victim was Onic PH's account, which was disabled on December 15.

Authorities revealed that, based on initial examination, the reason for these accounts getting disabled was the reports made using bots. However, there are other parties who triggered the reports, and further investigation into this is currently ongoing.

RRQ has no intention of giving a platform for the perpetrators amidst the chaos. Therefore, RRQ hopes that all parties can deal with the issue wisely and not make opinions that may bring harm to many parties.

An Invitation to Build a Positive Community Together

As a commitment to creating a healthy esports community, RRQ aims to educate RRQ supporters and fans, especially the RRQ Kingdom, to always support in positive ways.

The “Stop Disrespecting, Start Creating” campaign has started in 2019, when the MPL Indonesia Season 4 took place. The initiative was started to encourage esports fans in the country to avoid blasphemous actions in their effort to show support for their favorite teams. The initiative has since been part of RRQ Kingdom’s values.

This commitment also led RRQ to take the initiative to help the victims recover their Instagram accounts. This sense of responsibility to build a positive esports ecosystem should also be shared by all fans, enthusiasts, and stakeholders in the country’s esports scene. In the end, it’s a community. Thus, it takes cooperation from all parties involved to make it grow.

Teams, players, the media, and fans need to start realizing that they each play a part to make these values a reality. RRQ cannot do this alone. It takes a commitment from all of us so that the next year will be a better year for Indonesian esports.
