Everyone must’ve been waiting for the sequel to the previous Rurouni Kenshin movie, and after years of waiting it’s finally going to come out on Netflix on June 18 2021! Adapted from the popular Rurouni Kenshin manga made by Nobuhiro Watsuki, the next upcoming movie is titled Rurouni Kenshin The Final as the sequel to the previous three live action movies: Rurouni Kenshin The Origin, Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto Inferno and Rurouni Kenshin Legend Ends. Fun fact, Rurouni Kenshin The Final releases this year along with Rurouni Kenshin The Beginning.

Fans of Rurouni Kenshin a.k.a. Samurai X can finally witness yet another amazing Rurouni Kenshin movie with cool characters, deep storytelling and action-packed battles! Speaking of the characters, there are six characters that are going to appear in the upcoming movie, and they are:

1. Kenshin Himura

The titular “Kenshin the Wanderer” is obviously going to make a return in the upcoming Rurouni Kenshin movie. Previously known as Hitokiri Battousai the cold-blooded assassin, Kenshin Himura is such an iconic character due to the massive cross-shaped scar on his cheek as well as his bloody past as he killed countless of enemies of Ishin Shishi or the Knights of Meiji for the sake of Japan’s new era.

After swearing to never take a single life again, Kenshin Himura lives in a new era of Meiji wielding a unique Sakabatou sword with a reverse blade and helping the weak throughout his adventure. Then, he meets Kaoru Kamiya who owns Kamiya Kasshin-ryu Dojo where Kenshin stays at, as he trains the art of Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu there to help stand up for the weak.

2. Tomoe Yukishiro

Tomoe Yukishiro is Kenshin’s ex-wife who made her first appearance in the first Rurouni Kenshin movie titled Rurouni Kenshin The Origin, although she only appeared very briefly in that movie. But in the upcoming movie, Tomoe is going to take a central role in the movie as the killer samurai who takes side with the Bakufu government and leaves the massive cross scar on Kenshin’s cheek, as well as becoming his fiancee whom she is going to marry in order to leave behind her grudge toward Kenshin the Hitokiri Battousai.

At first, the Bakufu government faction tasks Tomoe to approach Kenshin who seems to be very hard to defeat. However, she soon feigns defeat to Kenshin’s warmth and kindness, as she begins falling in love with him and marrying him. Deeming the mission a failure, the government faction sends a group led by Yaminobu to take over Tomoe’s mission to approach their house in the village and kill Kenshin.

However, Yaminobu fails to kill Kenshin and Tomoe covers him up and takes the hit instead. As Yaminobu loses the fight against Kenshin, the dying Tomoe accidentally scars Kenshin’s cheek while holding a knife and dies in his embrace.

3. Enishi Yukishiro

The main antagonist of the Rurouni Kenshin movie is Tomoe Yukishiro’s younger brother. Fueled by anger toward Kenshin whom he believes to have killed Tomoe, Enishi can only think of how to exact his revenge toward Kenshin. He then travelled to China and became a mafia lord where he sold drugs like opium and smuggled weapons.

In Rurouni Kenshin: The Final, Enishi has become an adult and returned to Japan to finally exact his revenge with “Jinchu” or an eye for an eye being his life motto. He also brings several other followers who wish to exact their vengeance on Hitokiri Battousai like Iwanbo Gein and his friends. They only have one goal in mind right now: To inflict even greater pain than death, true to their Jinchu ideology.

4. Kaoru Kamiya

Kaoru Kamiya is Kenshin’s girlfriend in every Rurouni Kenshin movie as well as the owner of Kamiya Kasshin-ryu Dojo. The long-haired girl with ponytail wishes to teach the new era of swordsmanship to protect without taking a single life. At first, her first meeting with Kenshin was a bit rough due to her still believing that Kenshin was still active as the Hitokiri Battousai. However, after seeing Kenshin’s Sakabatou sword which disables him from killing anyone, Kaoru became convinced with Kenshin’s resolve and began helping him to protect the weak from evil people.

Due to being seen as Kenshin’s weakness, every enemy of Kenshin seems to target Kaoru a lot of the time, including the ex-killer Jine Udo who thought kidnapping Kaoru would be able to trigger Kenshin back to his old killer mode. However, it was Kaoru who managed to suppress the killer instinct within Kenshin from resurfacing.

5. Sanosuke Sagara

The series’ comic relief character always makes an appearance in every Rurouni Kenshin movie. Sanosuke Sagara was an ex-soldier of the special Sekihoutai unit during the Meiji war. After his captain Sagara protected him when the whole unit got betrayed and massacred, Sanosuke began carrying the Sagara name on him to carry on his captain’s legacy.

However, the veteran Sekihoutai ex-soldier then lived alone and became a delinquent on the streets of Tokyo. Sanosuke once dueled against Kenshin with his massive greatsword Zanbato, but then Kenshin easily broke his sword. Since then, Sanosuke begins traveling with Kenshin and Kaoru to uphold justice and protect the weak.

6. Yahiko Myojin

Yahiko Myojin is an energetic little kid who always appears in every Rurouni Kenshin movie with his bamboo sword. The son of Tokyo’s Knight lives in Kaoru’s Kamiya Kasshin-ryu Dojo with Kenshin and Sanosuke, and becomes Kaoru’s student with a burning spirit to uphold justice. His small posture doesn’t stop him from fighting against the enemies.

Some day, the adult Yahiko is going to inherit Kenshin’s Sakabatou once the latter has a child.
