Ideo is a fighter with explosive boxing abilities who appears in the Dressrosa arc as one of the fighters in the Corrida Colosseum. One of the curious One Piece readers asked Oda about this character.

In the column for SBS One Piece volume 72, a reader asked whether Ideo was inspired by the boxer in the old school robot anime Ideon. This was because they saw similarities between the two. Oda answered if the suspicion were true.

Since childhood, Oda has loved robots. That's why he chose a robot that he thought was cool enough to be the inspiration for one of the characters he made. Interestingly, Oda himself once admitted that he had difficulty drawing robot characters like Franky.
