SBS One Piece: Oda Draws How Luffy and Ace Would Look in the Future!
Aren’t you curious about how Luffy and Ace would look like if they could grow old together?
Anime & Manga | 09 April
These foresight drawings of Luffy and Ace in their late adulthood is shown in one of the SBS questions and answers in the Japanese version of the One Piece manga. Because of the unexpected and awesome design, many fans share those drawings of aging pirates on social media.
"I’m a huge, huge, huge fan of Ace. If he hadn’t been killed at the Battle of Marineford, how would he look when he’s in his 40s or 60s?" as the first question starts the SBS. Oda then replied casually, "Got it." And this is how Ace would look like in his old age:
Age 40: Yo Luffy, still the same as always.
Age 60: I’m retired."
Meanwhile, the drawings at the bottom, Oda made another version of his old age, an alternate universe where something went wrong with the One Piece characters, as they didn’t pursue their dreams. It’s pretty sad to see Ace who’s known as the “Fire Fist” if he spent his life casually that he’d end up begging for money like this…
Age 40: Osu Luffy, lend me some money.
Age 60: Chopper, just a little bit from the safe...
Just look at that poor old man in his 60s! He looks way different as the Ace we know. Thankfully, Ace chose to live his life as a pirate, although he didn’t have an aspiration of becoming the Pirate King.
Along with Ace, Oda also got a similar question about the old version of Luffy. "Odacchi, I’m a big fan of Odacchi and Luffy, and I have a question. When Garp was just a kid, his eyes were big and round just like Luffy’s, but they get narrower as he gets older. So, what about Luffy’s? Once he turns 20, will his eyes also become like Garp’s?"
As it turned out, Luffy is almost 20 years old, he turns out to be older than anyone’s expectation, Oda then decided to draw the older version just like in the previous question. "[Luffy turning 20] Will only be a year from now, so, I don’t think Luffy will be changing too much in such a short time.” Let’s take a look at him at 40 and 60 years of age.
"Age 40 and 60: Meat!!!"
Not to mention, just like what he did with Ace’s, Oda offered another alternative version of old Luffy who never pursue his dream as becoming a pirate. His love for meat does not change at all, but his looks though…
Age 40: Pirate King? It sounds like a dream!
Age 60: Oh? Did you bring good meat?
Take a look at Luffy at 60 years of age if he doesn’t become the Pirate King. You wouldn’t believe that the balding old man is Luffy, would you? Now that’s really sad. Luckily that’s just a drawing within an alternate universe drew by Oda, while in reality, Luffy is currently on his way of becoming the Pirate King.
On the one hand, it’s not really surprising that in his old age, Luffy will look just like his grandfather, Monkey D. Garp. But on the other hand, somehow Ace would look like Shanks or Rayleigh with Shanks’ hair than his own father, Gol D. Roger.
So, those were Oda’s description of both Luffy and Ace in the future, at the age of 40 and 60 years, to be more exact. If you find this fascinating, feel free to share this article with your pals. And wait for other One Piece facts and theories on DuniaGames!
