Anime & Manga | 10 February
Roronoa Zoro is a swordsman who mastered the Three Swords Style (Santoryu) in Straw Hat Pirates. This style allows Zoro to fight using three swords, two in each hand, while the other on his mouth. Have you ever thought about why Zoro always bit his sword? Doesn't it hurt? Oda answered that matter.
In the SBS One Piece column volume 95, a fan asked about the reason why Zoro always bites one of his swords. Oda explained that Zoro's teeth hurt every time he bit a sword, but he had his reason.
Zoro once made a promise with his childhood friend, Kuina, to become the strongest swordsman in the world someday. For Zoro, biting a sword is like a memento left by Kuina. That's why he always did it even though it hurts his teeth. He will continue to do so until he becomes the strongest swordsman.
