In One Piece chapter 1020, Oda tells who Luffy's second "wing" is through Nico Robin's quote. As a future Pirate King, Luffy needs trustworthy persons or right-hand men, or what Oda also calls "wings". We already know that Luffy's first confidant is Zoro. Then who's the other one?

Oda brought up this subject because he was afraid that fans would think that Jinbei would be Luffy's second "wing". In SBS One Piece volume 73 Oda once mentioned that Luffy's wings are Zoro and Sanji. For Luffy, Sanji's position in his group is equal to Zoro's.

Oda also emphasized that these two wings do not mean the strongest in the Straw Hats, it's just that they are the nakama that Luffy trusts the most. In other words, until the end of their journey, Zoro and Sanji are still called Luffy's confidants or it could be his wings, or his right and left hands.
