On Twitter, netizens were shocked by the news that a writer had an alter account that was different from the image he had displayed in public. This is interesting. Actually, what is an alter account? So what's the difference between a fake account?
Here, Dunia Games tried to make an account classification based on the function and purpose for which the account was created.
1. Second Account
As the name implies, a second account uses the same identity as the main account. The purpose of creating a second account may be for an exclusive reason.
For example, a second account is used for interactions with the closest people. So, unlike the main account, which was created to attract as many followers as possible, this second account is used to interact with a limited group of people. For this reason, often the second account is locked, aka private.
Second accounts can also be used for backup accounts. For example, when the main account is suspended or hacked by someone, Twitter users can use a second account to continue tweeting.
As a reminder, even on the second account, we still have to maintain a digital footprint. We can't just post randomly. Even though you have filtered friends in a limited circle, not all friends can be trusted. It could be that what you post for the consumption of close friends, can be distributed (by a spy friend) for public consumption.
A public figure once had bad luck because of a second account case on social media. This celeb posted personal and private things on his/ her second account, but it turned out that he/ she was betrayed by one of the few people who were allowed to be friends with his/ her secret account. The post, which should only be seen by close friends, actually leaked because it was spread by a friend until it became public consumption. This case is a reminder for us that there is such a thing as an enemy in a close friend in cyberspace.
2. Fake Account
In contrast to the second account which still uses the original identity, the fake account uses a false identity (according to the name). Starting from the name to the profile photo does not match the personal data.
Fake accounts are usually used for stalking without knowing their real identity. It can also be used to comment on things that you don't want to do using the original account.
Fake accounts can harm other people if they use people's photos without permission. The person whose photo is misused may get consequences for the actions of the fake account owner. So, if you want to make a fake account, you can use photos of flowers or pets.
Accounts created to resemble official accounts can also be called fake accounts. Usually, these fake accounts are created for the purpose of deceiving. Because of these many fake accounts, the blue tick concept emerged. The use of this blue tick is of course to distinguish the original account from fake accounts.

3. Alter Accounts
An alter account or alternative/alter ego account is an account created by someone who wants to appear different from the main account. If you want to be someone who is not at all like in real life, you can use an alter account. You can build new branding with this alter account.
The fun thing is using an alter account, you can play roleplay (RP) or parody. For example, you wear a Korean avatar and tweet as if you were a public figure or K-Pop artist. Usually, RP accounts also build the AU world aka alternate universe together.
If the purpose of the alter account is to hide the real identity, you should not share too much confidential personal data there. Because on Twitter, there are lots of online detectives who are ready to unravel the mystery with a careful digital search. Once stalked, the real figure behind the alter account can be revealed.
One of the most successful alter account phenomena in the Twitter world is the Poconggg created by Arief Muhammad. Before becoming the social media influencer he is today, Arief was the admin behind the phenomenal Poconggg account. While being behind the Pocong avatar, Arief tweeted as if he was really a pocong the ghost.
Arief's totality in building the Poconggg character can entertain his followers on Twitter. Until finally Arief's real identity was revealed as the person behind the Poconggg account. Now, Arief rarely uses an alter Pocongg account anymore. Arief is confident to appear with his current face.
