One of the confirmed Marvel Studios movies is Blade. Back in July 2019, at the San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios president introduced Mahershala Ali as the lead in the standalone Blade movie.

Since the movie hasn’t even started filming, there’s not much we can gather in terms of the storyline. But, at the very least, we get to know the approximate release date of the vampire hunter movie.

So, here’s what we know about the MCU’s Blade so far.

1. It Will be Released in 2022

According to Murphy's Multiverse and ComicBook.com, Mahershala Ali’s Blade will go into production later this year, with Stacy Osei Kuffour as the scriptwriter, and might be slated for Halloween 2022.

At the moment, the project is still yet to have a director. But Marvel Studios will certainly have a name to direct the movie soon.

2. Mahershala Ali Idolizes the Previous Blade Cast

Ali’s Blade is a reboot, as in 1998, the first Blade movie was released, with Wesley Snipes as the lead actor. The trilogy was a success and able to gather a lot of attention. It also served as the trailblazer that attracted the adult demographics into superhero movies.

In an interview with The Tight Rope, Mahershala revealed that he’s excited to bring Blade back to life. He expressed his respect for Wisley Snipes and promised that he will give his best performance in this movie.

3. Mahershala Said the Movie Will be "Darker" than Most MCU Movies

Still from the same source, Mahershala said on The Tight Rope that this movie will certainly be darker than most MCU movies.

However, Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, made it clear that Blade will be rated PG-13 instead of Adult.

Well, it doesn’t feel right for a movie that will likely feature bloody vampires to only get a PG-13 rating.

4. The Lead Has Played in a Marvel Series

Yup, those who watch Netflix’s Marvel series are definitely no strangers to seeing Mahershala Ali in a comic book movie. The 47-year-old actor has previously appeared in Luke Cage. In the show, he plays the leader of a crime family, Cottonmouth.

On top of that, Mahershala has also won two Oscars with Moonlight in 2017 and Green Book in 2019 as the best supporting actor. With his remarkable feats, Marvel Studios is convinced to have Mahershala Ali as the Daywalker and as the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

So, that’s what we know so far about the MCU’s Blade. To put it simply, this movie will tell the story of a superhero named Eric Brooks, a half-vampire who decides to eliminate the vampires since he has a terrible past with the bloodsucking pack.
