Here are the indie games with a successful Kickstarter campaign besides Coral Island.

Coral Island is an indie game from Yogyakarta that has succeeded in attracting the attention of gamers around the world. This is because the game developed by Stairway Games has successfully conducted a fundraising campaign through Kickstarter. The total fund that has been collected is more than IDR 23 billion.
Previously, Stairway Games set a figure of USD70,000 for the Harvest Moon simulation game project that the studio will work on. But who would have thought that the enthusiasm of gamers was so high that the fundraising far exceeded expectations.
Coral Island is not the only game that has made it through the Kickstarter fundraising campaign. Before Coral Island, there were several other indie games that were successful first. What games are they? Take a look at the list below.
1. Darkest Dungeon: The Board Game
The success of the Darkest Dungeon franchise has encouraged developers to create a board game version of the game. In October 2020, a Kickstarter campaign for Darkest Dungeon: The Board Game began. On the same day, the Kickstarter campaign target was easily achieved and even exceeded the target by successfully raising more than USD1.2 million from the initial target of USD300,000.
Darkest Dungeon: The Board Game is similar to the video game version, where this version of the board game will involve 1 to 4 players to form a team in Hamlet. Then, players will be assigned to carry out missions by exploring dungeons, fighting monsters, and helping the Heir mansion to return to its former glory.
Darkest Dungeon: The Board Game itself is scheduled to be sent to the backers as early as November 2021.
2. Undertale
Undertale is an RPG game that has average graphic quality. But the gameplay and storyline managed to attract the attention of gamers to try to play it. Undertale bewitched the players by making them addicted to the game.
But despite its success, Undertale also went through difficult times in its development. At first, Toby Fox was developing a 2D RPG game called Undertale and created a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter on June 24, 2013. Before the campaign began, the demo for Undertale was released on 23 May 2013.
But who would have thought that the demonstration's release received such a positive response that it also influenced the Kickstarter campaign for Undertale. Surprisingly, the Undertale Kickstarter project managed to raise more than USD51,125 (IDR 730 million). This figure is very far from the initial target of USD5,000 (Rp72 million).
3. The Banner Saga
Next, there is The Banner Saga developed by Stoic. The game development also had a successful Kickstarter fundraising project which began on 19 March 2012. Where Stoic Game targeted the campaign it managed to raise funds of USD100,000 (IDR1.4 billion). But on April 20, 2012, the Kickstarter project raised 700% of the planned target. Where Stoic managed to raise funds of USD723,888 (or around Rp.10.4 billion) with 20,042 backers.
The Banner Saga itself is an RPG game that has a very interesting concept. Where this game raises the story of a Viking-style nation that presents various legends of the Norwegian nation. In this game, players will play as a nomadic tribe, so the journey will not be easy. Players will be faced with various obstacles that must be faced during the journey, and players are assigned to protect each member of the tribe from any threats at any time.

4. FTL: Faster Than Light
Next, there is an indie game titled FTL: Faster Than Light developed by Subset Games. This game was first announced through a Kickstarter fundraising project on 28 February 2012, where the initial target was only USD10,000 (IDR144 million). However, the Kickstarter project managed to raise USD 200,542 ( Rp. 2.8 billion) with 9,818 backers.
FTL: Faster Than Light is a unique Real-Time Strategy game. Where the game is different from RTS games in general because the player will actually organize a group of federation aircraft crews on their way to escape the invasion of the traitors.
5. Broken Age
Broken Age, or originally known as Double Fine Adventure is also one of the successful games thanks to the Kickstarter project. This game was developed by Double Fine and managed to attract the attention of many gamers proven with its fantastic funding. The Kickstarter project, under the name Double Fine Adventure, has successfully raised funds of USD3,336,371 (Rp. 48 billion) with 87,142 backers from the initial target of USD400,000. The Kickstarter project started on 9 February 2012 and closed on March 14, 2012.
From the funds raised, Double Fine finally released a point-and-click adventure game titled Broken Age. In fact, due to the large amount of funds raised, this game made by Double Fine is considered the game with the most public funding ever.
6. Elite: Dangerous
Next is a game titled Elite: Dangerous, which became an indie game that succeeded in being successful through the Kickstarter fundraising project. The Kickstarter project was formed on 5 November 2012 and managed to collect as much as 1,578,318 Pounds (Rp31 billion) from the initial target of 1,250,000 Pounds with 25,681 backers. After successfully raising funds, finally Elite: Dangerous was released in 2015.
This game invites players to have an adventure in a vast galaxy with thousands of planets, which is praised by many parties for its very detailed mechanism system. Where players will experience being a pilot of a spaceship that can be used to explore a galaxy with a number of planets that can be visited exceeding 3,000 planets.
7. Star Citizen
The final game on this list is Star Citizen a game with a successful fundraiser. On the Kickstarter page, Star Citizen managed to raise USD2,134,374 (Rp.42 billion) from the target of USD500,000 (Rp1 billion) with a total of 34,397 backers.
The Star Citizen fundraising did not end on Kickstarter, because when it released the alpha version in 2015, the developer also announced that the game's funding had reached USD100 million. Even today, fundraising for the development of Star Citizen still continues through its official page.
