In Naruto’s world, there are three ranks in the ninja military organization: Genin, the lowest; Chunin, the middle; and Jonin, the highest (Kage does not count as he/she is the village leader, not a soldier). 

Even though not all Genin can (or must) promoted into Chunin at a young age, but in average, Naruto’s friends or colleagues promoted into Chuunin at the age of 14 years old like Sakura and Rock Lee, 16 years old like Iruka, or even 17 years old like Ebisu.

Then, let’s take a look at 10 ninjas who promoted into Chuunin early from the oldest to the youngest based on the official information taken from Naruto: The Secret Scroll of Fighting and The Secret Scroll of Soldier!

10. Shikamaru Nara - 12 Years Old

If only he’s not so lazy alongside Naruto, Choji, and Kiba at the academy, probably he could graduate and become a Chuunin one or two years early!

9. Asuma Sarutobi - 12 Years Old

Like his pupil, Asuma managed to be promoted into Chuunin at 12 years old. His ninja career kept on jumping until at some point he recruited as one of 12 Fire Nation Guardian Ninjas - the Fire Daimyo’s bodyguards.

8. Baki - 12 Years Old

The Jonin who lead Team Gaara during Sunagakure and Otogakure invasion to Konoha turned to be pretty talented. He could get promoted at an early age compared to his peers. Even Gaara who later promoted into Kazekage at 15 years old, just became Chuunin at 14 years old.

7. Might Guy - 11 Years Old

The man who later became Kakashi’s best friend even though he couldn’t use other Jutsus aside from taijutsu, turned out was prompted into Chuunin one or two years earlier than his friends.

6. Rin Nohara - 11 Years Old

Kakashi and Obito’s teammate with a sweet face didn’t have much spotlight in the series to show her powers. But she was worth it to be included in Team Kakashi lead by Minato judging from her ability to be prompted into Chuunin at 11 years old.

5. Obito Uchiha - 11 Years Old

Even though he wasn’t talented ninja back in the days, but it turned out that Obito was promoted into Chuunin faster than most of his classmates. But on the side, at that time Konoha probably in need of more soldiers to fight in the Third Shinobi World War.

4. Itachi Uchiha - 10 Years Old

Not only feared as a member of the Uchiha, but Itachi himself already excel in academics, fighting prowess, and mindset at an early age. He successfully promoted as Anbu captain at 13 years old.

3. Minato Namikaze - 10 Years Old

Similar to Itachi, Minato also graduated from Genin before his age turned 11. It’s not strange that he was considered as one of the genius ninjas and the youngest Hokage. Not only he had incredible speed, but Minato also included in the list of Genin who graduate early into Chuunin.

2. Sasori - 8 Years Old

Aside from Baki, there was another ninja outside Konoha who was talented enough. The second position is taken by Sasori of the Red Sand who mastered the kugutsu no jutsu (puppet technique).

1. Kakashi Hatake - 6 Years Old

So far, the record of the youngest Chunin is Kakashi (at least based on the official guidebook). Even though famous as “Comrade Killer” due to the deaths of Obito and Rin but his career was a success, until to the point he promoted into Anbu when he was 13 years old.
